Title: It's Alive!
Post by: josh on August 07, 2007, 05:20:49 PM
Well after sorting out a few minor glitches like a fuel leak and one of the IDA needle & seats sticking closed before we gave it ignition and started it, she roared to life on the 1st crank

I couldn't sync the carbs yet cause I need to make an adapter for the monster velocity stacks for my snail meter but the father in law and I took it for the maiden blip up the street and holy mother farker i'm in love
I don't think I took it over 4500 rpm but a little puff on the throttle doing around 40km in second ( in a straight line none less) and we were quickly slideways without even trying, can't wait till the carbs are dialed in.

i'm gonna try and geta video clip up tomorrow

the carbs are flooding when engine is shut down and hot  you can here it boiling and look down the bore and they are dripping from the middle winged looking thing (aux vents?) on #1&3.

Who's the IDA whiz on here? I never saw this with my IDF's....... any tips?

I'll give bruce a try, thanks.

Hell ya it feels great to hear it run, and gettin' bent is one of my favorite passtimes :mullet: I am a Langford man and all!!

This dickhead neighbour down the street tried to give me shit about driving it on the street and it was all I had not to try out the line lock infront of his house after our shouting match :P

here's the money shot

Josh,

Just remember theres a noise restriction on cars at Mission raceway on street night drags. You better put  a muffler on your racecar  ;)

If you go to the test and tunes theres no issues using a stinger.

Contact Mr. Tweddle since he's probably the IDA expert in Western Canada if not even East.

Well that would of sucked, showing up friday night and getting shut down....I had no clue  Will I qualify if I cram a baffle in it?

Anyone got a merged muffler they wanna lend me for that night? I'm a broke ass and can't afford one right now.

Mr Tweddle has helped me out, thanks

Is it a small 3 bolt flange? I can bring my extra muffler with me if it is.

Thanks brendon, I know that one fits cause I use to run this header on that car, when will you know if you are getting it back?

Flat 4, could you measure the bolt pattern for me? I don't know what size I have, it's a 1 3/4\" S&S header. If it's the same, that would be killer!!!

Josh your car kicks major ass !!!!!

You might need to get rid of some of that rubber fuel line, that won't fly at tech.  unless that is some of that new nhra aproved nylon fiber hose , but i still would not use it for the sake of a tech disagreement issue. Hot engine big IDA's hold the gas to the floor and crank it over till it fires up, It will start right up.

take a roll of masking tape and wrap the sync tool until you have the sized correctly.

thanks jeff, the previous owner (some dude in Oregon) left me with a pretty decent platform to build off of :P

Rubber fuel line.......what rubber fuel line? The lines off the regulator are the same ones that were on the car, I just put some black shrink wrap over the stainless braid, cause it looked stupid with the ss running beside the black aeroquip breathers.

good tip on the sync tool, I was gonna make up some fancy aluminum o-ringed adapter on the lathe, but your meathod sounds a little quicker ;)

there are a few things that cause this.
first if your car is lowered in the frt a fair amount ,the fuel level in the float bowl will be higher at #1,3 and lower at #2,4.if combine this with a misajusted or high float level this can be the cause as well if you add a leaky needle and seat fuel will just pour out .check the float hight ,leaky needle and seats and if these are ok and it is due to a big rake then drop your float level 1mm.a good test is when you heavy break or decel down hill if your motor starts to die more than normal because of fuel dumping into #1,3 lower the float height.
you have a data loger you can map this.

myself,i run at 1.5 mm float height and for street use hook up my fuel pressure regulator to my advance vaccum port on the carbs .

also shut your electric pump off before you pull into the driveway etc and dump the pressure in the system and use some of the fuel in the lines and bowl, agan watch your data loger when your a/f ratio starts to lean out shut it down

Hey I never thought of that one Jim, the car does have a fair amount of rake to it. I'll add that to the list. Bruce is helping me sort through this little stumbling block.

I'll try the pump kill trick and watch the LM1 too. I think flying a plane is easier than driving this car :o That's fie by me tho, it'll keep the riff raff from getting behind the wheel :P
