does anyone know or have come across a bug aftermarket item made in the 70s that were called tornado shields or maybe something else..... they clip on the doors on a beetle, they enable you to roll down your windows and stop the wind from going directly into your car, they are made of fiberglass and they bubble out from the door glass.   does anyone know of these or have you ever heard of such a thing. there is a Mini in abbotsford that has a pair on his car, and he says his came from new zealand. email me and let me know .......... thanks,   john

I think I know what you meen, I've heard them also been called bee catchers or wind deflectors.  Sorry no more help than that.

they are not called bee- catchers which catch the wind but these deflect the wind. i will try to upload some pics if i can............. john

Ya tornado catchers was the term or one of them very popular in the late 70's and early eighties used in autocross, and still popular in europ try to find a euro mag and you'll see them. There are a couple of them at the mission race way on rx7's

I got a pair of these.  Also called 'elephant ears'.

I put them on my Oval, didn't notice any difference :) But they look cool.  Still have the original box for them.

Good for the overrestored, over-acessoried bug (like mine), but pretty useless otherwise.
