i think it's the same car. the similarities are too close.
one peice windows, early tail-lights on a later car, volkswagen hood script, antennae mounts, orange running lights in the headlight bucket, smoothed decklid....i think i even recognize seeing those same pics somewhere on the www awhile ago.
someone call que and get to the bottom of this.

good news.
i sent the seller an email with a few questions and i was tempted to offer him $6500 cash to end the auction early to see if he bites.
i knew the engine was wrong, but that guy is an idiot thinking he could get away with the use of those pics and that description.
-
Let's bid this bitch up. I am the current high bidder at 5100.....anyone else wanna play?

Man, I had some one do that with my add and like I said i e-mailed him for information and he did not replied.
There may be ways to find out who. that is not a topic for discussion.

Hello
-
Just got an email from him Silas. I am going to send him one asking for the specs on the carbs in the picture. You ask for the pics of the floor. We will then start the fun. Tell him if all looks good you have no problems paying him his asking price for such fine car.
I got the EXACT same response you did.
here is what I sent
Hi Lori.
The car looks amazing I must say! Love the colour combination you chose. I had sent a question about the size of those carbs in the picture. What size are they? They look huge!! If you could send me a quick interior shot and perhaps let me know if you are willing to ship to Canada, I can then make arrangements for a money transfer. Again, LOVE THE CAR!!!!!
James (sorry JAmes it was the only dumbass name I could think of.)
-
here is the email i sent him after his first reply....
hello,
i am very sorry to hear of your personal problems, but i know that things will
look up for you soon.
i cannot find your add on ebay anymore. is it still for sale? i am still very
interested in your car, and from your description, it sounds perfect for what i
need.
is it possible to get more pictures or perhaps see it in person?
cheers
silas
and the reply i got from him/her (that also included the same pics that were in the add)....
Hi Silas,
I will relist the car for you once we are clear the terms. I have attached you the pictures.
I said the car is in Cartersville GA, but did not said I'm there also. Sorry for that. I have a new job in Tucson AZ actually and I will not be there to hand it over or something like that. This is why we'll work through eBay Motors Customer Department and they will keep the money until the purchase is final and you test it and accept it.Sorry for not being clear from the beginning, my fault.
But if you make a $2900 deposit I can come back and show you the car, if you are not ok with it ebay will give you the money back.
Let me know,
Lori
so now i need to convince him/her that i need more detailed pics, and figure out how to convice him/her that i will pay that amount for the car and how the transaction will take place (unless \"james\" outbids me ;) ).
any ideas??
-
Ask him if he has a friend that can take a pic for him and send it to him. See what he does. Ask some questions about interior or something directly VW related that you know he will screw up. I want to see if he responds with a \"I have another interested buyer kind of thing\"....maybe ask him if there is lots of interest or not....then we can start a bidding war.....

exactly what i was thinking.
i'm on it & will report back with his reply.

Perhaps I'm guilty of giving people the benefit of the doubt, plus I never saw the original Ebay ad, but what if he actually has a car that has the same paint scheme as Que's? I mean no disrespect here to Que himself but it's not really a one-of-a kind paint job. Is there any doubt the car in question is Que's?

i'm with you matt, innocent until proven guilty. that's why in my first post i asked que to give us the heads up about the photos to assure us all that it was indeed his (que's) car, and he said he reported it to ebay as a hoax, so i have to assume it was (and is).
i was looking over the pics and the similarities were endless. early tail-lights on a newer car, same hood badge & placement, same wheel combo, same antenae mounts, same decklid (smoothed), same orange running lights in the headlight buckets, same rear mounted reverse light (67 only, i believe), same fog lights & mount.....the first thing i recognised was the pics of the car and the location they were taken in. i could have sworn that i saw those exact same pics after que had posted them (on franklins or some other site) awhile back.
-
Totally agree but that colour combo is not that common. I can't think of another one I have seen with that colour combo and those wheels. I drool over that car every time I see it.
-
i same wheel combo
Que runs 16's up front and custom 17's out back. I have never seen anyone with that set up, but hey there is a first time for everything.

You guys are insane if you think you'll provoke a bidding war. The add is a hoax so why would he even think of a bidding war when he can take you both for $2900. Just a thought, I love the idea of workin this ass over but make it worth while and make him sweat, not start to think something is up. Things like two guys bidding over the car from Canada might tip him off. Especially when they are both asking similar questions pertaining to details.
-
I may still have come bud's on Georgia and Alabama.

that's a very good point. i also think the bidding war will not work but rather he'll try to negotiate 2 seperate deals.
that's why i didnt offer up his email adress, i didnt want to \"scare him off\". i was thinking along the lines of how to catch this guy (through ebay or some other form) so his name and reputation as a scammer is known.
or to just have the guy caught in his lies....or run around thinking he's actually going to get away with it....or set up a \"meeting\" where nothing but his time is wasted.
generally, just try & f@$k with this a-hole.

my last email...
hi lori,
thanks so much for the reply & the pics. i'm happy to hear that it is still
for sale and at a reasonable price too!!
do you have a friend or someone close to the car in georgia that can take a
few detailed pics of the car? i'm most interested in the heater channels and
rear quarter panels.
also, are those tail lights original for that year? and are the one piece
windows original?
i look forward to your response and i really hope we can make this deal
happen.
i dont really understand why we need to relist the car on ebay though (i'm not
very ebay savvy)? if we can come to some sort of agreement on price &
delivery, maybe a with a bank issued certified money order or paypal
transaction would work.
i look forward to hearing from you.
cheers
silas
& his reply...
Hi again Silas,
I'm sorry but there is no one that can take some pics at the moment. Well there is no need to relist the car but we will have to do this through ebay since it's safe for both of us.
Let me explain you how we can make this deal happen.
The process works something like this:
1. You send the requested deposit amount of $2,900.00 to an eBay motors representative.
2. eBay will confirm me that you have made the payment.
3. I will ship the car or I can come back home so you can inspect, test and make a decision if you will keep it or not.
4. If you will not get exactly the same car that you have viewed in the ad, and also a clean title you will receive all your money back from eBay motors.
5. If everything is ok eBay motors will get the approval from you to release me the founds.
If you agree with this process please let me know your full name and address and I will forward the details to eBay motors.
Regards,
Lori
i think i'm going to return his email & call his bluff on the car by saying i just met a guy at a local show 2 weeks ago with the exact car that is in the pics.
i dont have the time or energy to deal with this loser anymore...unless someone else wants to pick up where i left off.
-
Does EBAY even involve themselves with stuff like this? Holding money until the deals are done? Perhaps the emails should be fowarded to EBAY and let them go after this person for fraud.

good idea fred.
-
Silas, as a service to the VW community, you should keep this up until you have his real name. Then SLAG him all over the Samba so the whole world knows it.
-
If anyone feels like bothering some one a little more local, the squareback in Stefan's yard with the roof cut off is for sale again. [_[

ebay does have an escrow service... but it still smells like a scam to me.

wow. even when the little buggers get caught they'll still try the exact same scam. that's brutal. i mean, if you're going to be a crook, at least be creative about it.
did ya report this one too bill? i did see a seller's phone number on there... should we all phone the dood and harass him?
