Title: Acceptalbe Lifter Bore Wear?
Post by: Aircooled Angel on June 24, 2007, 09:03:36 PM
Hey guys,

I've just started putting back together a 2110 after having a few problems with one of the heads.  It's  running 044 heads, 40 x 35, with dual vw springs, a web cam 110 (.435 and 256 @ .050\") has seen 7K often with no signs of valve float.  Motor was built on a new brazzilian case.  Motor  gets driven a lot, has about 10K miles on it to date.  When I dropped the lifters in with the thick Torco assembly lube they feel tight in the bores, but if you put them in dry, they have about .040\" of play in the vertical motion the cam would want to wear  them.  The bores themselves look ok, no noticeable wear patterns or egging out.  Just wondering what is considered acceptable? Its not like I'm running a very big cam!  thanks for any insight
Mike

.040\" is 1mm, and that is HUGE!  Your case needs the bores rebushed.

The factory spec is .0008-.0024\".  The wear limit is .0047\"

Damn, you confirmed my fears Bruce!  I couldn't find my Bentley tonight so didn't know what the spec was off the top of my head, but it just didn't seem right at all!   Anyone local do this that you know of? thanks
Mike

I think Cameron was working on a fixture to do this repair.  Send him a message.
I know Alan has had a case rebushed by Steve Hollingsworth in AZ.  Maybe Alan will pop in here.
