After alot of searching, dickering, deals falling apart, I brought this :   http://vancouver.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles...QQAdIdZ12622380 (http://vancouver.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1963-Volkswagen-Beetle-W0QQAdIdZ12622380)   home this weekend.
  A 1963 Canadian Standard, partially restored (body/paint/interior/rubber) og engine, og pan (with battery area repair, correct piece welded in)... car is \"as-built\" correct, aside from the addition of a gas gauge (blank dash plate included with car), and running boards with chrome.... I think the canadian cars were chrome-less on the boards ?
  Engine is an original, no rebuild 36Hp, was converted to 12V last week. Interior is refreshed mostly right, including the \"short\" headliner.
There are a few issues... but I am not going to shed tears over them. trim (chrome)  is original, needs replacing. There is some cracking around some of the exterior lighting rubbers, one hubcap is messed up, and original muffler is a bit rusty.
  Car hasnt been driven for several years, sat in Cranbrook. Made the trip from Cranbrook to Comox with nothing but gas and a lil' oil. And the putt-putt motor was able to maintain about 90 Km/h most of the time.. we were 2nd gearing it on a few hills on the Hope-Princeton
   Considering some of the so-so stuff I was willing to buy (I had nearly made a deal on another car, but the dicker point was my $100 plane ticket to fly in to pick it up ), and the lack of original un-molested cars, I think I got a nice one. 1300+kms in the last 2 days on the original (which turned 90, 000 on the way) engine kinda confirms it.
   Whats the concensus, did I wait long enough, or do I sell it on the known places for such things and move on ? ...  I am prone to keeping it.

From the pics, look like you have a nice clean ride. Clean up the things you don't like and enjoy it!

looks good mate.

and i'm happy to hear that the maiden voyage from cranbrook to comox (close to my old stomping grounds) went well. that should say alot right there. make sure you keep up with the maintenance and i'm sure you'll get many happy miles out of that car.

grew up on denman island & went to school in courtenay and then lived in courtenay for a few years after highschool before moving to vancouver.

Spent saturday rebuilding carb (28 works lovely now), replaced exterior trim, a bunch of cracked exterior rubber bits (around lights etc.), new hubcaps, corect parking light bulbs.... all the little things that were making me nuts. Lovely afternoon in the sun with some music, beer, and a now empty box of parts. The little things make a big difference, car looks great.
  Have some take-off bits free for the taking, serviceable but worn side trim (hood piece is ? not correct length for my car (short), but finished in a point so I don't think it is for a car w/emblem), 3 beat hubcaps, rubber seals for all exterior lights (worn, but useable).... untested 12V starter too. PM if you need any of it.
