Title: Suspension
Post by: luvbug on May 22, 2007, 12:42:11 AM
I have a 68 type 1 lowered quite a bit, lots of neg camber in the rear.front has drop spindles,it feels like driving a go cart.when i hit a small bump the front end shutters and when i need to drive over a speed bump it makes a clunking sound (louder when wheels are turned).my question is do i need to replace ball joints ,shocks and tie rod ends?
will this solve the problem? thanks

Your going to have jack it up and take a look at all those parts plus bearings and steering box, beam etc etc etc. With the car lowered you need to check all of it. Did you get an alignment done after you lowered your car?

with a lowered vw and having shocks makes a stiff ride. maybe try some lowered shocks?

be careful with lowered shocks... cars usually have to be SLAMMED for the shock travel to work out....
like what was said before check that the ball joints arent binding, check that the shocks arent bottoming out....
also the shuddering makes me think that the shocks are toast, or the steering dampner is toast, or both....
