I need to replace one of the rear brake cylinders on my 57, but don't know if they're the original backing plates or not, what's the difference?. CIP lists the up to 57 for $45 and the 58 on for like $15. I don't want to order the wrong one. how can a wheel cyl differ that much in price, I don't get it.
-
Maybe ask the guy that built the car?
He could have put type3 backing plates on?
We would not know.
-
i think the 57 and earlier have one bolt holding the wheel cylinder in and 58 and later have two bolts
mabey someone can confirm but it is something like that
-
Measure the brakes and take some pics to post.
-
Russ I believe you have that backwards. Im 99 % sure that pre-57 have the two bolt style cyl
-
Notchback is right, earlier wheel cylinders had two mounting bolts
-
that's exactly the info I was after, mine have one bolt so that makes them later, good. I already thought of the type 3 swap, but I compared the drum diameter to my 63 and they were the same. wait a sec, or were the type 3's wider shoe?
that's why I love this forum, thanks all for the help :D
-
type 3 are a wider shoe
-
cool, do you know how wide?
-
I measured the shoe width on mine and it's 1 9/16\"
-
exellent thanks
-
type 3 are a wider shoe
and bigger diameter.
measure the bore, and then you will know what T1 cylinders you have.
-
bore of the cylinders or diam of drums? if you're talking cyl's do you know the measurements?
thanks josh
