Title: Header To Rear Apron Clearance
Post by: kirin on April 15, 2007, 06:38:47 PM
Hey Guys,
Been trying to decide what exhaust I want to run on my beetle. Since I am filling in the tail pipe cut outs in my rear apron. However before the car's primed I want to make sure that I won't run into paint heat issues down the road(Basically the header cooking the paint on the outside of the apron). Has anybody ever come up with a heatshield or something? Should I worry about this or am I just being paranoid? thanks.

Kiki

With the sidewinder on my oval it has sufficient clearance, but there is a tight spot near the upper inner structure of the apron where the engine seal goes. I ended up trimming the seal channel a bit to clear. Other than that those exhaust systems are second to none for quality/fit and finish, Tiger does an amazing job. As to whether it will burn paint, I doubt it, but can't say for sure since mine hasn't hit the street yet. If in doubt add a bit of heat sheild on the backside of the apron. I can post some pics later if you wish.

Here's a nice merged exhaust system, made by A1 in So Cal.
I took these pictures as the exhaust was being installed on the car, Bill Schwimmer's 58 beetle.

its a little dirty, but its ceramic coated and I can clean it up.

Looks to be the same one as what gav posted, if your running stock height tranny mounts you should probable be able to clear the apron or just about.
