Anyone ever installed this kind of heater?

What other parts are needed?

How would I safely test this type of heater?

Don't know much about these heaters, but it's the kind that mounts above the transaxle. It also requires the control box (which also has the spark coil built in) that mounts in the engine compartment.

Those heaters were in 66-68 Canadian Beetles and were usually disconnected by the dealer. I've never seen one actually work in the 23 years I've been working on these cars .

I also Have this heater complete with all part.
While researching information on it, I found out that this is the heater that caused the stories about gas heaters going up in flames, mine works but I chose not to install it because of the potential danger.

I think the danger is its location if there is a problem the first you know about it is when you are on fire.

The control box on mine was mounted under the back seat. it looks like you are also missing the exhaust pipe

I asked because my 66 came with one and I found this one for sale on samba at for $280.00. I owned VWs in Hawaii and Puerto Rico (Hot weather) where we did not use heaters. At that price , I figure it was a good thing to have.

Thanks everyone.
