Anyone local run an Anti-Shocker? Local sources? Local Opinions? Got any?
-
I've never run one but I like the idea. But then I'm sure there are many who can make a tranny last with out one , and many who who can still break a tranny even with one.
I'd really like to hear some more opinions too.

Here is an email reply from Muffler Mike regarding this setup
The anti shocker i had from my 2001 posting i currently do not run any more. I have since moved on to a different set up but same concept.
If you look at 2-15-03 and 5-25-04 update, this is the current set up i did. Still using the same concept of a shock absorber/equipment dampener with a new twist. By me moving it up to the front of the car, it keeps it away from the heat of the motor that does take its toll on the seals in these things. I also have it set up to work in first gear only. this way i can turn it up a lot more and not worry about it creating slip in the other gears. And with my data logger that records rpm and input shaft speeds, i can dial in how much clutch slip i want off the line.
The shock from 2001 is just an Ace Controls MA-225 adjustable equipment dampener with a home made bracket. (the shock i use for upfront is an ma-900 for stroke length and power) http://acecontrols.com/ (http://acecontrols.com/) I personally use a company called http://claytoncontrols.com/ (http://claytoncontrols.com/) that is an Ace dealer and are relativlly close to me.
Also , Greg Garza on CLF has been getting some just to sell that migth be an easier way to acquire one. http://www.cal-look.com/forum/index.php?topic=17120.0 (http://www.cal-look.com/forum/index.php?topic=17120.0) just would have to fab up a bracket and give it a little twist.
And they do work. although if you do the small one and depending on driving conditions, you may either want to keep a spare in your tool box or find some higher temp seals to replace the current ones in them. a long time ago, there was a guy that i talked to about this and he figured out the seal configuration (he worked at a hydraulic place) but i can not remember his name now.
the good news is they will not go out over night. we are talking a year to quite a few years before you kill the seals from heat. If i remember right, they are only good to about 140 degrees or so.
hope that helps

Who wants one? I found some for $40 USD plus shipping which looks to be around $5 USD.
-
did ya call the peerless place, it might of been less than 80, my memory aint what it usetobe you might get a break through them if you got a group buy together, what the hell i'll take one.

Is this something needed if you have a big engine, or is it just required to save your trany when you race?
what does it take to intall it?
-
the theory is as I understand it, to slip the clutch ever so slightly when doin' \"drag race starts\". It softens the shock load on the trans and driveline, which is the parts killer. Talking to guys that have used them you can just sidestep the clutch on the line and your consistancy is much closer than the conventional way.
so to answer your Q, unless you are planning on driving, launching this way it would prob be a waste or time/$
