pretty self explanatory....have a '76 2.OL EFI air-cooled and wondering what i should be putting in there to keep it running long time and not spend a fortune
-
regular unleaded will work just fine

Not DVKK but there is usually a sticker on the gas door (was on my 75 westy) that says what octane you should put in (can't remember what octane they usually say but it was mid grade I think). I wouldn't personally use regular. It does make a big difference in operating temperature when you are travelling. I always treat our VW's to the best though. Aren't they worth it?

checked the stickers they are selling at Wolfsburg west and it states regular gas 91 minimum octane

i was taught to use the lowest octane you can run that wont knock/ping.
anything greater and you're wasting your money.
example...if it knocks with 87 and doesnt with 89, there is no need to use 91.

All aircooled VWs were designed to run regular gasoline. AFAIK, the octane rating system used when your car was new is different than the one used today, so 91 on the sticker corresponds to the 87 regular available at the pump today. As long as your compression is stock, you can run 87.

thanks alot guys...i'm sure i'll be up here with more questions as I work on my new baby more

the sticker also says 91 RON (research octane number).
i'm pretty sure the gas in the pumps here in bc is RON+MON/2.

just convert it to bio-diesel.........or propane, I hear its on the comeback... :P

91 RON (european grading system of fuel) is equivilent to 87 OCT. Anything more then your car requires is wastning money, High octane gas is for high compression engines.
