Title: Swingaxel Changing To Irs
Post by: egspot on March 04, 2007, 12:57:44 PM

I have to decide whether it is worth doing it. So my chassi/pan would need to be transported from/ to Maple Ridge on a deck, the conversion would need to be done, and I will have to acquire an IRS trany.

What kind of cost? Who would do such a job?

Duane's German Autohaus did one for me years ago - Give him a shout.

I can get picts later this week, But just picture a irs floor pan with no rust and a tranny......
The only thing i do not have is trailing arms.
If you want the pan $300. and tranny's are different prices i have a good runner for $150.(out of my ghia)
And two rebuilt ones for more just depends what you want dude.

Emilio, I'm just curious why do you want to do this?

I have this view of driving a curvy road and rolling the car. I understand that it is supposed to be an improvement at freeway speed stability.

Do you have the stock Z-bar on your car? It helps quite a bit. I have a camber compensator on my 66, and it feels plenty safe on windy roads. I worry more about sliding than rolling the car. I would spend my time/money on wheels/tires/shocks/brakes before changing suspension type.

Also there are a wide variety of whiteline sway bars and torsion bars that all the autocrossers use. Go to the autocross/ racing forum at shoptalkforums and they should give you some insight. Only other way I know of is...

see below pic!

Okay all joking aside about BMWS. If you want to learn how to make your car handle or throw it around a corner you should really concentrate on tightening the lose nut behind the wheel and then modifying the vehicle. In other words take a higher level driving school.....

YMMV
