I am posting this to let people know that I am quitting smoking. Some might say, who cares? [_[ I think it will be harder for me to start again if everyone knows. Kinda makes me more accountable. Anyways, Wish me luck, Brian.
-
Good on ya. Is she gonna do it too?
-
I guess your talking about my wife? Shes trying but not as determined as me.

Ha ha, the doctor in the hospital a couple of weeks ago said I will be carrying around a oxygen tank with me by the time Im 40 if I dont quit. For some strange reason it scares me more than dying. As far as whatshername goes I gotta look out for myself. But ya, it will be that much harder.
-
Good on ya Brian! Can't speak from experience, but I know it's been tough for a lot of people I know, some who couldn't do it, who ended up with the tank.... not much of a way to live
Hope it works for you!
Brian
-
Good Luck man! It's tough....you'll feel better in the long run!
-
I don't wish you luck, because you don't need it. All you need is the willpower.
I've been clean for 5 years, with the help of the patch and chewing toothpicks. It's the best thing I could have done. You get my full respect for making this decision!! perhaps we'll talk Kim into being as determined as you are.

We could always hook it up like a scuba tank for ya...make it more macho...
Well Brian, I hope you do quit...
-
Great decision Brian, I know first hand the effects of smoking. My dad has 1 1/2 lungs and has emphysema really bad, and many of medical issues from it.
You will enjoy life much better.
Kevin
-
good for you Brian.........now how about you jason?
-
Good for the both of you.
This is just motivation:
Some of the things I found after my accident;
I f you are a smoker, there a bigger chance of blod cloth after surgery.
While my bone could regenerate after 2-3 month, I read about a smoker with the same injuries and operation, His bone have not progressed after 8 months.
-
dood its about fuckin time!!!!!
my only advice after smoking for 14 years, buy some carrots and be proud of everyday you go without a cigarette, and try to avoid coffee it will probably help, it did for me!
-
Hang in there Brian!
it'll be BRUTAL but you will never, ever look back and think \"gee, I really wish I had never quit!\"
hopefully Kim will find it in her willpower to choose to grow old with you
no seriously, good for you!
-
good for you for making the right decision and best of luck with it. it will be hard, but it will be so worth it.
-
Having never smoked it's pretty hard to understand how addictive smoking is. Just by making your post says alot, Best of luck.
-
Your turn next Silas.... :D
-
Glad you finally listened to me... Im always right....
Tell Kim she's next on my list!
All the best buddy!
-
My dad quit just over a year ago now after smoking for 55 years. He was a two pack a day smoker and he did it cold turkey. I never thought I'd see the day. He said that it was easier than he thought. His reason for quitting-----He wants to see his grandkids grow up. And obvious health reasons.
Good luck to you, if my old man can do it, anyone can.
-
Your turn next Silas.... :D
first i have to get off the horse tranquilizers, then i can deal with kicking nicotine. :P
-
Silas, you should join Brian in a pact (no, not a pack!). Just think of the cool parts you will be able to buy with what you save.
Brian, get her on here, maybe we can berate her to join in on this official Airspeed Forum Butt Out.
Now, where's Bruce McCrindle?
-
Good for you Brian but even better for your step son. Hopw Kim quits as well, .......You can do it!

The Force be with you.
I smoked for 10 years and quit May 1st, 1982. I quit a sales job to go back to school and I told my self, If I could not do that job I could not afford to smoke. I was in insurance sales doing thee packs a day.
First three weeks are the worst and good company helps.
-
Don't give up!!!We're all rootin for you
-
Buy the book Alan Carr's easy way to quit smoking,it really helps lay it all out It worked for me!
-
Can't relate off of personal experience but here's some inspiration. A friend of mine after smoking for some 30+ bought a BRAND NEW pack of smokes got in his truck for his daily commute and decided to quit. Placed the full pack on his dash and it sat there to remind him every day for (what I remember) a couple years. He never opened up and never ever had another drag. He passed away in the spring of 2006 of an aneurysm, in his 60's. He got to see his family grow up and have grandchildren. Young by todays standards so who know. His name was John Isaacs and he is missed.
May you find the same kind of will power Brian, and get Kim on board too. :)
-
Brian
That's great to hear!
You will feel so much better in the future!
Think of the $$ savings, you can put this in to future projects!
Shawn :D
-
Way to go Brian. We are all behind you!
Besides this is a win win situation.....You get to live longer and I don't have to worry about cigarette burns in my new top! :D
-
Im already on the quitting train, ive been 3 days so far, cold turkey
-
Good for you Brian! Just think of all these posts wishing you good luck. You've got to do it now!
My Dad finally quit after He landed in hospital with a stroke that really messed Him up for a long time. To all you smokers out there , trust me , YOU DO NOT want to go through something like that. What ever you may go through now to quit , is nothing compared to what you'll go through if you don't. Besides that , your just keeping some big ass tobacco company rich , fuck them ! Fuck them all!
-
brian, wish ya all the best man. i'm on day 30 right now, and there's been a couple of days of serious hell (for me and the co-workers). but once you decide you're done with it, it's amazing how much easier it is.
so grab some patches and a couple packs of cinnamon gum, and give 'er hell bud.
ps. good job bruce. i don't have the balls (literally and figuratively, i guess!) to go cold turkey, but next week i start weaning off the patch.
-
My wife is a respiratory therapist and also a smoking cessation educator. Some of the nasty stories she comes home from work with are brutal. 45 year old,30 year smokers, on O2 all day, having energy issues just getting off the couch.
If you need any support she has tonnes of info, and contacts if you need any extra help.
I smoked for 12 years. And don't regret quitting one bit.The money I save every year from quitting helps me afford my mountain biking addiction!
The best of luck to you man!
-
i work in a hospital and i know docters HATE operating on smokers , they have way too many problems during surgery.
good luck !!
-
Way to go Bruce and Moni. Silas, you mean horse steroids don't you...
-
Thanks for all the support everyone. I cant let you people down or Ill never hear the end of it now. Guess thats why I posted this as I know how ruthless you people can be! Hans, of all the years Ive known you, Ive never heard you talk like that!lol.
-
go man go!!!!
just think how much faster that fiat will get done!
if I was still smoking I would never gotten my car to where it is :)
-
Way to go Bruce and Moni. Silas, you mean horse steroids don't you...
no he definitely means tranqs!
That silas would be a nutbar on steroids :P
-
Silas RIOD RAGIN?
-

Good luck to you as well Bruce. They say cigarretes are harder to quit than heroin. Not that I have tried but thats what they say.
-
Quitters:
Nobody likes a quitter.
Quitters never win, and winners never quit.
Just kidding. Can't say I understand what ya'll are going through, but good luck and better health!
-
You can do it brother. My wife quit after 10 years and now 7 years later she still sounds like a smoker when she laughs......yuck. Be strong
-
interesting fact:
#1 - Within 20 minutes of quitting smoking your lungs and airways begin to heal and your blood pressure and pulse return to normal.
#2 - Eight hours after quitting smoking, the nicotine levels in your blood reduces by 50%, and your oxygen levels return to normal.
#3 - Twenty-four hours after quitting smoking, your lungs begin clearing out mucus and other smoking debris.
#4 - Forty-eight hours after quitting smoking, your body is free of all nicotine and your sense of taste and smell greatly improves.
-
Already noticing but going through serious withdrawls!!!! I have to keep myself busy to keep my mind of of it
-
Good Luck Brian
-
UPDATE?????
Brian,
Bruce,
Simone?
Brian, is she on board yet?
-
Update, for me its going pretty good. Ive been using this stuff called resolve. I cheat a little here and there but I would say Im at about 80% smoke free. As far as Kim goes, shes doing better than I thought. As long as she is still trying.
-
WTF 80% - Would you race a me at Mission at 80% throttle????? NO! Balls to the walls, git 'er done!
-
i'm on Day 36, and i actually SLEPT last night for the first time in over two weeks. yay! feeling sooooo much better right now.
i understand what you're saying tho brian. celebrating a friend's bday couple of weeks ago had all the triggers for me: in a pub, smoking room, booze everywhere and hanging with the usual chain-smoking suspects. and temptation won out that night...
but for me, usually the deal-breaker is buying a pack
-
Sounds like your doing a little better than me Moni. I havnt bought a pack of fags for a while. But there is someone in my house that always seems to have a pack around. Listen to all these people who have advise but have never really smoked. What does smoking and drag racing have to do with one another anyways? :D
-
Brian stick to your guns dood! You will make it. It's really easier than you think. After 24 hours your body is already recovering from the damage done, its just your head playing games with you, find something else to do every time you need that smoke or \"think\" you need that smoke. Keep carrots with you or, drink some water, anything to occupy your moment of thought, that goes for all of you trying to quit, if you make it past the first day your already winning :)
-
But there is someone in my house that always seems to have a pack around.
Brian, you really shouldn't allow your step son to smoke!
A simple cure is to hide the smokes.
-
Hang in there!!!!!!
I quit cold turkey 16, no, 17 years ago, literally almost over night. Not the easiest thing I ever did but definetly one of THEE best things I ever did for myself. I can honestly say I have never abused another tabacco product since.
I picked up munching on dried apricots and banana chips and such, kept the fingers and mouth occupied ;)
And after about 6 months your dentist will even notice a big change in your gum health.
-
So Brian, Tell the class... Have you quit? Or was it all Bullshit?
-
Hmm for some reason when I read Shaner's post all I could think of was the JAWS theme.... And now you all are too!
-
So Brian, Tell the class... Have you quit? Or was it all Bullshit?
Well, I wont sit here and lie to anyone. So, in a word NO! Frustrating as hell for me. Im not done trying to quit. I will do it! [_[
Shane, your a fucker! :D
-
Well, I wont sit here and lie to anyone. So, in a word NO! Frustrating as hell for me. Im not done trying to quit. I will do it! <_<
Shane, your a fucker! :D
I think he is holding you accountable to you self.
That is cool in my books.
-
Brian I walked away from slurpees they don't own me anymore let the cigs go
Put the money in a jar everyday that you would spend on cigs make kim go outside to smke politely refering to secondhand smoke and children ad your attempt to quit
Brian life is really short I 'm out of work with back injury again and hate being hurt all the time imagine the 02 tank and your family there is only one choice Quit
I've known you since you were 16 and seen you accomplish many things others couldn't and you have persevered Let it go Man
Guess I'll be quizzing you a bit more you can do it all of you Way to go for making the effort :)
-
we're all still rooting for you Brian (& Kim), I can't possibly imagine the hell you are going through
but I do know you can do it!!!
-
Well, I wont sit here and lie to anyone. So, in a word NO! Frustrating as hell for me. Im not done trying to quit. I will do it! <_<

I call bullshit on that. Maybe more about stirring the pot.
-
Keep it up, dont quit quitting!!!! it,'s worth it in the end. It took me over a year to quit, I first went to a hypnotist and that didnt really work very well. I then planted this seed in my brain and I guess hypnotised myself, I told myself every day how disgusting a smell it was and that was the first thing other people met also, how I never wanted my kids to smoke so thats another good reason, and I also want to see my kids grow up and if I carry on there's a good chance that wont happen, imagine putting them through that shit of seeing you die!!!!
Then I gave up cold turkey, no patches, nothing, very very hard for the first week but two years down the line my health is way better off than before, I feels great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
350 people die each day from smoking related diseases in the U.K, and no one says dick shit, but if a plane load of passengers crashed each day, then the world would be up in arms.
Stick with it and good luck.
