That's my Dad's 63 in the background.
-
Thats almost looks like a Rockwell portrait with the sleigh, beetle and the flap hat. Great shot!
-
Ha! Thats hilarious Geoff. Is that Michael Jacksons hand on your shoulder?
-
I think the great question is why does Kevin have pictures of Geoff!?
-

-
Lucky you Tom...
I am 34 and have never been to Glamis...
we all own rails in my little group and are heading to Florence in March...
Oh to go to Glamis......One day
-
Tom, Those rear tires look like aircraft tires? yes/no?
Very cool shot, show us some more.
Anyone else with old pics with VW's or?
-
haha, awesome geoff!
Stephan :mullet:
-
First off I think that was adam rich from eight is enough.Tom wicked photo lets see some more , I'll try and dig one up to .My mom had a 57 oval, and a 66 when I was 5 my dad and I parted a 60's bug for use on my moms car.
-
There's a few more old buggy pix on my site, under \"Buggies\" (how original).
No Geoff, not aircraft, they're implement tyres. Flexible at low pressures, were about the 1st decent sand tire when they were cross grooved. Terras hadn't come out yet, and cross grooved wrinkles were still a few years in the future, a pair of which are on my rail as seen on my site. Paddles were really in the future, too. Tires prior to this were the biggest passenger tires you could get, rims about 6\"-8\" wide, and the tires had been \"buffed\" (a procedure to remove rubber tread to prep for re-capping).
That buggy was built by my dad, his 2nd VW buggy, as he had his own welding shop (great place to grow up ;) !). Transporter rear suspension with reductions, 36er (would have a judson in the near future, not long after this shot), Fiat seats, etc. I drove this thing quite a bit.
In the background you see an original old '50s buggy, a hacked-up v8 powered beast. Also an early belly pan VW buggy built prior to full tube frames. AFAIK, the 1st VW buggies were built about 1960.
guess these were the good old days. I loved it!

Now that is a buggy..... Kinda looks like mine right now as we have cut the roof off..... B)
-
Tried to post a shot of my rail
-
Hey Shane, I've cut a few things off your buggy so far. She's on a diet!!
Got it runnin last night with new carbs.
It looks like you may be the fastest out there!!! After me of coarse.
Chris.
-
SAYS WHO?!!!!!!!!
-
Time will tell Sweet Cheeks!!!
But all I know is there going to be serious Tranny carnage out there.
Bring your spare!!!!
Maybe we should get a king of the beach trophy after all this smack talk.
Chris.
-
I don't need a spare tranny! I have learned how avoid shock loads
to my tranny that are probably 10 times that of my actual power out put.
Should call you the..
\" Lets see how many times I can side step the clutch before it blows \" twins

-
Hey , what did the red neck say just before he blew up his tranny?
Hey guys!! watch this!!  :P
-
Shane \"How many Trannies have you blown?\"
Hans\" one, but I did not know he was a tranny\"
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
-
Shane has the tranny all looked after...but...what did he get the chicken again for??? B) :P
-
 :P Brent,,, IE Taylor one who lives in glass house should not throw stones....
You have owned the chicken the longest,,,, :D
-
AH , the days of Shane ,.......when men were men and trannies were scared. :P :P
-
Well Hans The way I look at it if the tranny blows it was weak to begin with!
Imagine the 1/4 mile times if everone was so worried about blowing Trannies. They would be 14.80 or something.
You gotta Beat it like a red headed stepchild and whatever breaks make it stronger!!! It's the only way to be fast.
And that my friend is the red neck way.
By the way why is it that Shane has the chicken anyway??????
-
I'm not so sure Chris, that time Shane raced his bug at mission,
his full throtle side steping tire spining blaze of glory got him a
2.1 or 2.2 60 ft. time . I can do 2.0's without ever spining a tire.
What will your big bad chevelle do on radials?
-
...His full throtle side steping tire spining blaze of glory...
Sounds good to me! Who needs to be fast when they can look cool  :mullet:
-
OK, Lets get this Straight .. Shane HAD the chicken because he side stepped his rail and shattered his dif.
Gary now has the chicken for running his \"Keg\" Gas tank out of Fuel.
Brent had the Chicken for Side stepping on the Beach shattering his Dif, then he got the chicken for Rolling his buggy down the dune... Did I mention he rolled it down the dune. Then He also had it for running head on into a sand burm.
Hans you even had the Chicken when your Parnter got lost out in the dunes....
\" Can anyone hear me??\" \"Where are you Doug?\" \"Uhm I dont know?\" , \"But there is lots of sand!\"
-
Well I've never had the car on the track. But i'm pretty sure it wouldn't be very fast.
It' spins the tires though second gear just rollin into it. So I don't think it would hook up enough to be fast.
I wonder if they would let us race our buggies at the track that day with street tires. Even though mine has a Rotary it still has VW tranny.
It would be interesting to see what a 1000lbs and 250hp 9600rpm could do in the quarter.
One thing you can be sure of , when we race on the beach , I'll be side steppin, power shiftin, Roost shootin to be out front......
Cause if I'm going down like you say. I may as well look good doing it.. B)
-
Who's next?????? :P
-
You forgot to mention that the buggy wasn't just rolling down the dune. It was rolling end over end!!!! From probably 4 or 5 stories up......
You probably have some pictures of that dune don't you Shane...
-
his full throtle side steping tire spining blaze of glory
I like to call it \"Single Tire Fire\"
-
Forgot to mention the Time Brent took a jump with his son in the car and when he landed pointing straight up on the back wheels you could count till 3 until the car finally fell onto its wheels...
Oh and the time he took the Jump with his daughter and when he landed her Helmet came flying off and you thought he ripped her poor little head off!!!!!!
Ah those were the dune buggy days!!!
I am getting teary eyed
-
Well Shane, if I remember correctly the chicken only came to life after my minor experience with \"negative gravity\". So those other incidents didn't happen. Where is Mike when I need him...I can't take all the heat.
-
Hey Buddy.... THey happened alright!!! Just no Chicken... and you dont own it now....
and...... Chris is coming!!! ;)
-
I like to call it "Single Tire Fire"
OH...it was two tires and side ways buddy.
-
What the hell does that mean. Chris is comming????
The way I look at it If you don't ever get the Chicken your just not trying hard enough...
So you may as well give me that thing right now so can make a nice mount for it. Cause the new buggy's getting a beating this trip...
-
Chris is coming means all the men share a Brain!!!
So no pussy footing around :o We will let the testosterone loose......
I know that is when my wife just starts to drink  .....and says \" If you break it , you are done!\"
Getting very excited about this one... Huge crowd going this time . One more buggy for the pack.
Saw Hans yesterday putting the shiny stuff on his rail..... Looking slick! B)
-
You Know that saying.
Chrome don't get ya home but it'll get ya laid!!!!!
-
;) ;) B)
or...if it don't go ,...chrome it
-
;) Hey Hans ,
I got a call tonight.......
all I heard was 4 seat buggy shattering power!!!!!!!(notice I left aircooled out) ;)
Those 4 mikuni's were revin so loud I almost felt bad for you
I think it scared me alittle... :P
No worries mate... I'll take it easy on you for the first 100 feet
-_-
-
Don't forget about the CAST IRON they are bolted to
-

-

Soon we will be there at the dunes having some cool refeshing beverages tauting you to do it faster bigger and higher!!!!!
As Amanda {Shanes wife} would say. You guy's all share a brain when your together!!!
-
You know for a boat anchor that thing can sure fly!! :P  :P  :P
And to only have a 1600 in there aswell amazing
-
Ouch . . . . Did we wake up on the wrong side. What do you mean boat anchore!!
Your the one carrying 500lbs of cast iron there plus all that water which seems to slow your car down.
That's pretty good though a 1600 can keep up to a pinto that's \"Done to the Nuts\" :D
-
I am just refering to your Titanic quote....
You will need all 1600 CC to keep up this trip ...... Cuz my nuts are done!! ;)
-
Nice primer spots!!
That buggy wouldn't look half bad in my mirror if ya though a little paint on it!!

-
Hey man this is the new Rat buggy.. all go no show!! and I have installed a wink mirror so I can see all your asses behind me, I also have installed a plexi glass floor so I can see you guys under me as I fly aswell.
-
You should put some plexi glass sides on it too. Cause I'm giving out free sand showers!!!!!
-
I hope your not refering to \"golden showers\". :P
-
You never Know what might happen when we get into the drinks.
Wouldn't be the first golden shower I've given!!!!
-
Brian wants to come if there is free Golden Showers :P
-
lol; I think ill pass if you are the only two going. Rumor has it that James goes that way. ;)
-
You guys are animals. . . . .but I love it ! ! !
This is going to be a hell of a fun time !
Shane, Are you running aluminum beam again?
-
We had to put the stock beam back in to keep the front end down..
-
Red snapper,
We all have\" Exit only\" Tattooed on our asses. So the only people that have to worry are the one that don't!!
-
Shane, Are you running aluminum beam again?
I am running stock so you have a fair chance...
 :o :o :o
Dont wanna hear \" Guys , wait for me!\" \"Guys........, guys where did you go?\" \"WAIT FOR ME!!!!!!\"
-
Metal beam to keep the front end down.
Ha
The only time I've seen you front wheels off the ground is when the fllor jack is under that beast !!
Good try there bud !!
-
Lets see you laugh with a face full of sand.....got sand?
-
Dude,
Careful with the cockyness, remember Rhyno cases are only a little bit stonger than stock so be prepared for another snapper !!
If you plan on revin her and dumping it. :P :P
-
Okay ! I'm back! what I miss?...........something about Shane bringing
a floor jack out into the dunes to fix Chris' buggy???? I don't get it.
anyway , now that our pewter is all hot roded( many thanks to steve
and rob) I don't have time for all this . back out to the garage and put the
trans back together... bye bye
