alot of people here might allready know this, but i read about it today in a book called the porsche performance handbook by bruce anderson. i just thought it was kind of neat so i figured i'd share with the class.
what was the original name of the 911 and why did porsche have to change it?

Porsche had always named their models in (basically) consecutive design sequences. If I recall the story, Peugeot had actually copyrighted car names with (number) zero (number). Porsche's original designation for the car was 901, and Peugeot threatened to challenge them in court. From then on, they only used the (number) zero (number) designations for racing cars, since they were not in market competition with Peugeot road cars.
No love lost between Porsche and the French: They had actually apprehended and jailed Ferdinand after WWII for using French foreign labor on Porsche-run Nazi state production. Some believe the conditions of his incarceration began the decline in health that ultimately led to his death. Ironically, during his time in custody Ferdinand Porsche was \"compelled\" to provide technical consulting services for Renault.

901? Peugeot patented all three digit number configurations containing a middle zero which forced Porsche to change the to the name to 911.
But what do yellow brake calipers on a new Porsche 911 signify?

It was either only Turbo cars, or only cars with ceramic discs. I don't remember which, exactly.

i also thought it was neat that even tho the tag on the car had to change, some of the part #'s still retained the 901 prefix because they had allready been in production.
chris, i have no idea about the yellow calipers, but i bet jason is right. or maybe only on their race cars?

Oh and Silas I could really use the Canadian tire money. They are putting one in right down the street from my house.

No no no, the computer part of the forum.

If you do, it will be called \"American Tire\". Guess what they call the Canadian franchise of Sleep Country USA?
I saw a Tim Horton's when I was in Ohio 4 years ago. They are taking over.....

Timmy Ho's is already in Michigan, New York, Ohio, Kentucky, Maine, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

isn't there a dude in the States who opened up a \"Tom Norton's\" because he liked Timmy Ho's so much but wasn't allowed to buy a franchise?
