Just thought i'd say hello. Some of you might know me form \"other\" forums but for those who don't i here's some info.
I'm from Long Island, New York.. about 3 miles from Jones Beach. I've owned my 74 Beetle since new and rebuilt it a few years ago. There 463,000 miles on it and i've had a few trips cross country. I do most of my own work and have been wrenching on VW's since 1971 when i installed a EMPI Extractor and Screamer kit on my Dad's 68.
Since i'm on the \"Right\" coast, I won't be attending any of the events, but i hope to give some advice and maybe learn something new.

I've owned the car since new so i had to restore it. But i love Ovals best and also have a 57 Euro Ragtop that's been in long term storage (130 miles from me) for 15 years (no place to keep it locally).
The car has looked like this for many years. The Pedrini have been on the car for 25 year along with the Recaros. The dash gauges also date back 20+ years.
When 1st starting on the rebuild it thought about using early fenders, 57 bullet fronts with 64 rears, and early bumpers. But i decided to keep it looking stock... big bumpers and Elephant Foot tail lights. Hey... it is what it is. But that doesn't mean the mechanical systems had to be stock. I put my 1st dual Dells on back in 1979 and had a close ratio box since the early 80's.
The car was built to look stock. Only the dual QPs are a dead give away. I painted the Pedrini's stock silver to keep with the stock look. They're not a flashy as EMPI 8 spokes or Fuchs. The best part is when a kid in a Civic asks if i want to race. I'll hit the line lock and smoke the tires for a few seconds. Then i'll reply \"how much cash do you have?\" They usually roll their window up and drive away.
I just love a Sleeper.
BTW... my brother-in-law lives in Seattle, so i'll have to look some of you up next time i'm out that way. And if anyone plans a trip to Long Island.. let me kown.

Hey Glenn, nice car! I was wondering if you could tell me how you refinished those wheels? were they painted? what is the color code for stock silver? was a base/clear used or is it just a single stage paint? I have some wheels, I just picked up that I am going to refinish, any advice would help :)

I took them to a local shop that specializes in wheel polishing and powder painting. I told him i wanted them to look stock and showed him a stock steel wheel. He then glass beaded the wheels and painted them with a primer and then a single stage paint.
I'm not sure what paint he used, but i have over 10,000 miles on them and they still look new.
Most shops sell a silver called Argent Silver that's very close to the silver used on late model cars.

The problem with not painting them is that the wheel is cast aluminum and is somewhat porous. They get dirty real easy and road salt and oil seeps in and stains the wheels. Painting them has fix that problem.

could you leave the wheels as they are after bead blasting or do they need paint or polishing or maybe just a coat of clear. I only ask because in the photo they look good, i can't see all the detail.

You can leave them, but since they are somewhat porous they will stain. You can't clear coat them because they need to be primed for the paint to stick.
You might be able to clear powder paint them, but you'd have to ask.

what carbs are on that first manifold? single port? how does the linkage work on one of those?

I own some of the stuff. The triple car and Snow Trak I do not own.
BTW... the Snow Trak has a 36hp engine

snapper thought you wouldn't show up , thanks for scaring Hans. Hans don't worry perfectly harmless collection minus snappers input. Well Glen I was way off, The bosch sreamer kit is cool What year? That last one was some sort of industrial application?Other night at work Air liquide truck came in to fill are gas ,driver asked for help with vw engineand I got the nod . The semi unit carries a stock 1600 single port in the belly of the truck to power the pump .One lever to increase idle , and push button start .Bad weather had filled carb with water ,dried out filter and got it running, rain had found its way in through enclosure. didn't excpect to have to work on vw motor at my work.

The Screamer Kit is from the mid 60's and a 6 volt version. The orange engine is a water pump used on fire trucks.
