Urethane Bushings Worth The Work?
« on: June 12, 2007, 05:21:10 PM »
I am getting ready to raise my car up in the back. I thought while I was there I would install some new spring plate bushings. I have read that urethane would work better than the stock rubber, but they look like a pain in the ass to do. Are the urethane bushings worth the work, and are there ones from some manufactures go in easier?

And anything else I should think about doing at the same time?

I've installed some on an early swingaxle setup, and had no problems ... As VWChris says, longer hardware makes the job much easier, even if you only use the longer bolts to get it the cover on and then put the short bolts back.

Use alot of lube on the urethane or the squeeking will drive you CRAZY.

Let me say that again, \"use ALOT of lube on the urethane\".

Cheers.

I thought the issue of squeeking comes from not machining them to the correct size.

mine dont squeak, no machining, just proper application of the provided lubricant.

Of course my car is so damn loud I would not hear them squeak.....

When I first installed the urethane bushings, front and back, they were nice and quiet. I lubed them but didn't use the whole tube of lube that they gave me. About a year after my installation... the squeeking was so loud that I could barely drive the car.
So earlier this spring I found some \"white lithium grease\" in a spray can made by Jig-a-loo. A couple of squirts of that.... and it's quiet again.
