Wow I was thinking approx $800.00 absolute max based on what I did and how long it took me, being that I don't do this all the time.

When I bent my hoop and did the down bar it took me approx 2 - 2.5  hours from start to finish, bent, welded and bolted it in the car, this included taking all my tools out setting up making a template for shape, and putting padding on.    Metal cost was $88.00 for mine which had 21' of pipe.  Are they really that much?  Only difference in what I did and what is required for NHRA is thicker wall pipe, and 1 side , and 1 hoop down bar.

200-250 per point is a normal charge for Chromoly plus tying into the frame horns etc...

When it comes to safety I wouldn't want anyone other than a professional doing the work.

Yes - I am going swing out on the drivers and solid on the passenger. I am going to enquire about bringing my own steel - we get a pretty good price due to quantity here at the Shipyard. Just need to find out if I can get the appropriate stuff as the Chromo is a weird sizing (wall thinkness isn't standard)

i'm sure i paid around 1500 give or take for a 6 point no swing cage including the 2 drop links to the rear cradle-
-note i'm not a expert in this area but was told , mild steel works better in a crash as it will deform instead of snap so i'm told.
better get the wall thickness for the chromoly as i seam to remember at the time i was doing mine he had a hard time getting it and i don't think the difference in weight was worth the price.
anyway i'm glad to see everyone thinking of getting cages as there is NO price for safety

Weight wise I am looking at around 35% difference between Chromo and Mild; I think it justifies the cost for that amount of weight.

Mild steel you need to use 1 5/8thOD .134 wall
Chromo is 1 5/8thOD .83 wall

Plus you get the nice Tig weld on the Chromoly.

Matt Davis is making weld in cages in 4, 6, and 8 point, both Chromoly and Mild Steel.  I think I'm going to get one from him, and have it shipped.  If I can find a few people interested, perhaps we can save on the cost.

CrMo is 30% lighter, 20% stronger, and 200% tougher to weld.  Prone to cracking if not done right.  Pay the money and git it done right!

BTW - you should get your welds magnetic particle tested (magnafluxed) after welding is complete.  There have been a rash of cracked welds discovered in the last three or so years during tech at the track. (Greg is an old buddy and a retired NDT Tech).

Funny, I just PM him a few days ago asking the  same question just before this post started, but I have not heard back from him yet.. Maybe he is gone or having computer troubles.

If we could do a group buy that would be great.

I came across a Kelowna business RH Race cars that does cages, he donated a 8 point cage for any car with install valued at $1000.00 for the awards banquet for the track here.

This works out to $125.00 per point.  I e-mailed him today for a beetle roll bar legal to 11.0 and will post what he comes back with for chromolly and mild steel.

OK I received a reply back from RH race cars here is what he replied with.

A roll bar which is legal to 10.00 seconds will be about 800.00 mild and
1200.00 moly

mild steel cage will run you about 1200.00 and a
moly one around 1700.00  certified to 8.5 seconds

Wow a pretty good price.

Like Darren said ,I really advise installing a removable drivers shoulder bar ..I'm gonna retrofit one &that won't be cheap after the fact!
