Title: Type 1 engine 091 Transaxle
Post by: flat4 on March 08, 2016, 12:37:01 PM
Does anyone have experience with this scenario? Using a type 1 engine with an 091 transaxle in a late bay?  If so, what mods need to be done to make it work?

Thanks for the link. How does it work with a 6 rib 091 though. The bellhousing is deeper. Will the tin still fit? Does the input shaft need to be trimmed?

Check out Kennedy Engineering. They helped me out with my clutch for my t1 to 915 transaxle conversion. I think i dealt with a Rob there. And Lori in the Office. They knew what fits to what.

You'll have to spend some time reading that link, it's all covered.
It bolts up fine, but you'll have to shorten the input shaft (see link) and use the late bus starter. Your major issue will be the ratios if you are planning on a stock 1600, the 091 is geared for the longer stroke 2 liter and a 1600 will be a real toad in a bus.
