i know you spend a bit of time by main & 16th (i'm stalking you  :P ;)) so try main street locksmith (3128 main street, just north of 16th, on the east side of the street)...

http://maps.google.ca/maps/place?cid=399261930707721489&q=main+street+locksmith+%2B+vancouver&hl=en&gl=ca

they wont have your "special vw logo" key blanks...but they should have a generic blank and i'm close to certain that i got a spare cut for my 64 bug there.

good luck!

CIP1 has many early key blanks.  If not try the Samba for the blank and the split bus forum for the right code.  Any decent locksmith should have a blank for your key, if you don't want the one with the vw logo.

We have a good shop here in Maple Ridge and I can't remember how many times they have come up with a suitable blank for one of the many vw's I've had in the last 30+years.

You shouldn't have to venture too far from home to find what you need.

if there is markings on the keys it will be on one side of the key at the base of the vw logo... if there is no code than it is after market key..if that helps.. does the key have a name on it like huf or white...

the ignition key has V72E on it, and on of the door lock keys (the non-vw logo one) has 752 stamped on it.

i'll visit the local vw dealer and see what he has to say.

thanks for all the replies :)

the ignition key has V72E on it, and on of the door lock keys (the non-vw logo one) has 752 stamped on it.

The markings on your repro keys are of no use to you.  You need to pull the door handle off and read the code from it.  Same for the ignition switch since it's different.
Don't bother with the VW dealer, they are no help for our old VWs.  With the key code from the handle/ignition, any good locksmith can cut you a key from that code.

CIP sells brass repro blanks that look like the original steel ones.  If you buy those, you can take them to your locksmith and get them cut.

I believe it is coded as a T for transporter. At least thats the way the originals were
Although the T series keys were only used on Type 2s, the T does not stand for Transporter.  It's just a meaningless letter.

That locksmith shop mentioned earlier (the one located on Main) its a really great shop. Those guys are super helpful and nice. They un-stuck one of my locks and re-keyed it for me when I was having trouble doing it myself.
