Misconception Of Aa Cylinders
« on: March 14, 2006, 07:41:31 PM »
Well I took my AA's off my engine to get them honed. I often read on the forums that people are claiming that those cylinders are soft. My friend that is gonna do the honing calls me up and says that those cylinders are really nice....I said but they're soft. He says absolutely not. He said its actually the opposite. He just did a trial hone run just to see how the material is and it didn't bite into the cylinder wall like he expected.

I guess I'll see what he says once he does the .005 clearance. But so far he thinks the cylinders will hold up well for longevity.

As far as the often smooth finish those cylinders get its probably due to a fine finish hone and the cast rings not biting as well as they should. Cast rings should probably get a rougher finish than a 320 grit.
