After chatting to a few people at the show I have decided to go with either an IRS conversion or straight axle offset spring plates (probably from Womack).
What are the pros and cons of each? How do they compare cost wise, particularly as I want to stay with wide 5 drums?
Thanks for all replies.

For what kind of car?

1964 Microbus. It has flipped spindlea, and the rear is down one spline.
I would like to get a 1600 motor and remove the RGBs. Tyres are 185/60/15 so the 2" reduced diameter together with the RGBs make highway cruising rather slow (75 to 80km/h).
Thanks,
Mark

For what you want you can build a swing tranny to drive well on the hwy .The Womack plates are awesome nice bolt in piece plus they are only 150 bucks u.s. I like the ride in an irs rear suspension better depending how low your going to go.

Yes, they are really nice pieces of fab. I emailed him a while back and he was very happy to answer all my questions. The only thing is that I would still need different rear brakes. I dunno. Decisions!

If the bus is gonna be lowered id run type 1 brakes for clearance of getting the rear wheels off. Other than that id run type 3 rear brakes

Its going to stay lowered and is on Mangels with 185/60/15 tyres which is a bit of a tight fit anyway as they stick out more than stock.
I would think Type 1 brakes are a lot cheaper than type 3 which would help with the budget
