engine serial number

I picked up a motor with no serial number.All there is is a capital "D" where the serial number should be.is there a second place I could look or does anyone know what the capital "D" stands for.

Not sure what the samba page shows (can't open it here), but it should be a 1965 40hp 1200 and have cam bearings.   Not a good engine to build up, but they can be quite reliable if left stock.

With no numbers, it could be anything.  Post a pic of the case.
