Engine rebuild question
« on: August 03, 2010, 06:38:28 PM »
I have a long block that I believe is a 1300. The engine code is F0. Would this make a good core for rebuild. I was thinking about a 1776. I don't think the motor has ever been opened up. It does roll over but needs a new fly wheel for sure.

It can be done, but I don't recommend it.  The case has small oil passages, single relief, no inserts for the head studs, and you can't tap it for full flow filter.
Machining required:
Bore case for 90.5
Drill and install 16 threaded inserts
Drill and tap 5 holes to M8 (oil pump, oil cooler)
Alignbore

You will also need to get a 1500/1600 crank so you can use an o-ring'd flywheel.
And that flywheel will have to be gotten so you'll have it 12V
12V Genny stand needed
Set of DP head studs

If you are going to put $ into a case, you should get a 1600 case to start with.

Thanks for the info. I do have another case but haven't looked to see what kind of shape it's in. Might have a 1300 block up for sale when I tear into it. I'll have to split the case to get the crank and flywheel out at the same time. The nut on the flywheel is toast.
