20th annual VOLKSFEST
« on: July 26, 2009, 06:06:55 PM »
Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th, Apple Valley Volkswagen Association (AVVA) hosts it's 20th annual VOLKSFEST -- all-VW Car Show, Swap Meet, Games and Activities, VW's Drag Racing, and on-site dry camping Saturday night.

VW s entered can be old or new, air or water, and registration is only $10 per vehicle.  Judging at Volksfest is informal and not done on a points system, for one-of-a-kind hand-crafted trophies.  All registrants receive a dash plaque and goody bag (while supply lasts).

Swap vendors will have new & old parts & accessories, as well as toys & collectibles.  Swap spaces are also $10 and are spacious enough to sell from a truck, trailer, or semi!

Free admission for spectators, and there is additional spectator parking this year.  Among other improvements at the park since last year's event are another gazebo and a skateboard park.

Volksfest registration begins at noon on Saturday, at Moxee City Park (exit 34 from I-82, then east past K-Mart 4 miles; look for signage).  There will be the traditional Poker Run and Creeper Race, in addition to other activities throughout the afternoon and evening.

Renegade Raceway's drag racing on Saturday (the 12th) will be day races this year, and gates open at 10 AM.  There is a spectator admission fee, and it costs $20 to race.

Those wanting to camp in the park here on Saturday night may do so for a $5 camping fee (per vehicle).  Dry camping only; no hook-ups or campfires.  Sorry, NO PETS in the park -- park regulations!

Clarion Motel, 1507 No. 1st Street in Yakima, is host motel and has rooms available with one king or two queen beds for $65 per night when you tell them you are attenting Volksfest.  Their rooms include a fridge, coffeepot, and hair dryer.  Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-896-7966.

Food vendors will be on the ground both days, and there will be a free continental breakfast available Sunday morning until 8:30 am, for campers and early-birds .

Event T-shirts will also be available both days, and there will be Split-the-Pot drawings.  There will be fun competitions and door prizes throughout the day on Sunday.

The Volksfest flyer is attached.  Please feel free to share it with others.

We hope to see you at Volksfest!
