I grew up in Burnaby in those days and have been around the vw seen for thirty years, I  still remember the meetings at Me and Eds . The Middlegate parking lot was full of cool vw,s. there was a guy with the last name
of Blanchet. I think he had a white Cal look 67, and a split window bug in his front yard, was he a Thunderbug member I grew up in the same neibourhood with him, I was wondering if those cars are still around.
I think it is time to get one of those old Kingsway cruises going in the Summer,

Al Blanchet ,  Doug Fitspatric , Sylvester(crazy valve float doing donuts guy) ,  Mike Walls , Art ,  there is more.
The history of the club goes back much farther than this though.

Stuart Sprague was another one I forgot to mention. We need a Thunderbug reunion. :)
There was also a guy that drove a tan 68 bug. I think he was related to Lon.

Marcus and I were over at Rene's house last night! Rene had a New Year's Eve party, where some of the oldtime members showed up.

A lot of the old Thunderbugs member are still around, they just don't know that their old club buddies are also still interested in VWs. Most members has to drop out of the scene, or slow down, because of family obligations, jobs, etc.  I still stay in touch with quite a few of the oldies.

Not mentioned yet...
Art Prufer
Ray Saul
Jay Winkelmans
Bruce Peet
Phil Somerfeld
Roy Hansen
Chris Holt
Bill Seimens
Norm Moe
Greg and Liz Bowen

Hi Shawn,
Marcus's sister got rear ended, while she was driving his green super beetle. And it was written off. But he now has a late 70's convert.

Al Blanchette is still around. He lives near Me 'N Ed's. But out of the VW scene now.

Yes, the Berg motor was not in the car at the time of the accident. But it was sold off many years ago.
Marcus is not involved in the hot rodding thing anymore.

I think Outkast has a great idea. If someone can get some club members together, and bring out some of the old Pictures and history with them, I think this will make for a great bull session for the vw community.
Throw some kits in the old 48,s dust of the diamond tuff a polish up the metalflake lets get those old vw out there.

I will supply the Tents ,Tables, and chairs, and possibly the Banners, if someone can look after the rest.

Wouldn't that be Rene Lord's car?

He bought his car new, from the VW dealer, in 1974. And he's still driving it.

Is that the same Porsche replica that he was working on in 1981? Or is it a new one?
