What Is An Engine Worth?
« on: March 10, 2007, 06:37:13 PM »
In my opinion this is a good guideline.

If you are getting an original show car engine rebuilt for your 1958, 1965, 1966...so on, be prepared to pay for the parts and the work of a builder.  1200 to 2000 would be reasonable I think,

A used 1300-1500 with good compression could set you back 100 to 300 or so at your own risk.

A good rebuilt for a 1600 to 1914 would be worth 1000. - 3000. In parts and machining if one did the work. It would take another 500 to 1500. To have a builder do the short or long block before you finish it with carbs and the works, without getting fancy. The rest of the engine outside of the long blocks (i.e. tin, carb, etc.) at between 300-1000 (conservative.) So basically you are looking at anything from 1500.00 or 1800.00 to somewhere in the 4500.00 or over range for the whole thing.

If you are buying a used 1776 or 1914 don't expect to get anything worth having for  1500.00 or even 1800.00.

If you are looking at a NEW stroker you can add to the good rebuild above. For a used stroker you would take your chances if you know the person who built it and the person who owned. If it is worth having, expect to pay between 2000.00 and 3000.00 depending on mileage and how it was used.

Hint If you see a good 1776, 1914, or a stroker with papers and receipts, don't expect it to go for 800.00, 1000.00 or an unreasonable, ridiculous figure. You will get what you pay for it i.e. if someone  is giving you a 1776 or 1914 for 400.00 / 500.00 you should ask yourself...Do You Feel Lucky.
