devote your life to blowing every dollar you have on volkswagens, stay home when friends go on vacation, eat the value brand kraft dinner. roll your own smokes.
and work like mad.
i spent 9 weeks home last year, all the other time i was away working, 120-140 hours every 2 weeks.
this year so far i have been pulling 100 hours every 2 weeks..

i know many people do this, its pretty common, just most people have lives outside of volkswagens.

Just wait till the brakes and beam show up...mmmmmmmmmm  sexy

:!: Just so everyone knows, We have a race planned..no date as of yet. but its on the line.
I (cale) am gonna race chris...and i need to do it with some sort of flat 4 vw, (air or water cooled)
non turbo is a few less laps than turbo (i know your gonna out drive me and force me to blow up my tranny)
but the looser gets a rubber chicken in the ass, and a photo that will be posted all over this forum and many others (if i win that is :) )
its a war against the rotary, and a single seat buggy...weedwhacker motor VS tractor motor.. plus or minus a few hundred pounds...
so yeah, its on, now i gotta build me the huge bug motor i have been waiting for...and keep it cool somehow.. hummmm, i dont like rubber :(

 :mullet:    :mullet:

And dont worry shane, im gonna spank you in the 1/4...now its just gonna happen in a car with a little more ground clearance.

PEACE OUT BEEEEAAAATTCCHHH

Which Rotary the Long travel sand rail or the race rail in the dirt? I beat the long travel sand rail once with a 1914 .....................

When I Towed it! :P
Title: Woo Hoo! New Parts!
Post by: Shane on November 12, 2005, 11:02:53 AM
Cale, I will take you on for the 1/4 mile, And I hate rotary as much as teh next guy, However that being said, I have known Chris since we were 13 or so... and dood is F@3king Crazy...... and I have seen Both the single and the Sandrail in action. I have recieved many,.... and I mean many sandshowers from him and I have been drawn into his crazy-ness, Like when him and I tagged teamed up on Brent and Taylor and made them drive thier buggy into the ocean      Our wives used to say we shared a brain...
So Cale I guess what I am saying is.... LUBE UP DOOD.....
That Chicken is soooooo gonna hurt going up there....

Nice Brakes though,,,,,, I like em.... Here is a Chris saying... If it don't go fast, make it shiney......
Chrome won't get you home but will get you laid,
and finally .....
Beat it like a Redheaded step child....
Your sooo dead cale...
Title: Woo Hoo! New Parts!

LOL i know dont worry, the chances of me with a brand new car, zero racing experience, way more weight..and basicly a off road mud bogger VS a stadium buggy, are basicly none...i should be going down like a cheap hooker with no teeth.

i fully understand that this is a really really stupid bet. but i cant say no..at least i can try.
obviously im gonna get worked on the track, thats ok with me..all im out to prove is that i can build a VW motor ( i forgot, its OK if its a golf motor also...just any VW block) that can hold its own, and make it through the paces, and not be belching smoke all over the place and overheating.
Thats  about it for me... if i gotta take a rubber chicken, i will do it with a smile  :D  but im gonna give that rotary a run for its money some how..maybe we should strap them on a dyno.

BUT i also remember that that chris said he could put his rotary in my baja and i could put my VW in his rail and he would still spank me with my own car... so really..its more of a war JapVSGerm

im gonna give it my best shot., aim high right? good insentive to learn how to drive really really really fast.

Cale

Cale , this is not going to be a problem.  I know Chris and have talked to him  many times about this.  Yes , his rotary's are fast  but not out of this world fast. He needs to rev to like 10 grand to make it go. I'm sure an honest 160 - 180 hp with about as many lbs. torque can keep up with "300? "  hp and about zero lbs. torque.

That being said , Chris is a crazy S.O.B.  and will stop at nothing to win.  But then again I get the same feeling about you Cale.
I like this project and the way you think

Btw probably all the aircooled buggy's Chris has raced against are built by guys that take out the stock oil cooler and put some other micky mouse cooler in front of the fan or use those aluminum centre mount shroud kits that would'nt cool a stock motor let alone a race motor. You know the type ......"Pro's"   . Then when it all melts down they get pissed off and put in some water pumping P.O.S.

I LUV Chicken... Butt not that much!  You guy's are hilarious I couldn't stop laughing.
What this is all about is Cale and Shawn were over the other night and we were talking about Reliability. It's not about what's a better engine.
I reason I run a Rotary water cooled P.O.S   is cause they can handle the abuse, I run the race car 6 to 10 laps per heat and shift the car 12 to 14 times per lap and pull it to 9200 to 9600 rpm on a 30 to 40 degree day and the engine takes it no problem.
The only thing I did to the motor this year was dyno tune it {228hp to the wheels}and put 87 octane fuel through it, thats it!

I can have a engine built for less than $2500.00 that performs like this and takes the abuse, that's $10 per HP

Shawn you get a chicken too!!  I'll ask my big hand friend to put the lube in you guy's :o  :o

LOL flat 4 air cooled...or just flat 4? WBX??

i have been talking to a local high performance builder and he is trying to sell me on the idea of a 4.2 vortec..

i will build it air cooled..and it will last..for a race at least..just as long as i dont get the chicken.

but 2200 bucks, if i want a motor to run cool for that long, my cylinders will cost that much  :(

maybe i should just build me up a rotary... LOL, not enough torque to get a heavy baja rolling though..

Cale

there is no way in hell your tinfoil german surplus aircooler will beat a rotary.
I have seen what happens when 350hp is applied to one and it pukes in mission
The only reason you don't like rotarys is because you've never driven one.
Cale you may as well start shovin now.

I have seen what happens when 350hp is applied to one and it pukes in mission
The only reason you don't like rotarys is because you've never driven one.
Cale you may as well start shovin now.
But seriously how many guys does it take to adjust the valves on a 13B
Grant, Nice to see you on here... So what was it like not taking first this year??Might aswell burn that engine now

LOL!! A guy running 1300CC weed whacker motor talking smack about a built air cooled? i could go to the junk yard and pick up your motor if i choosed to do so, actually, it would be cheap and easy, because there are TONS of rotarys in the scrap pile..where they belong..i wonder how such a great motor only made it into a mazda? LOL mazda guys think the 323GTX is a bad ass sports car..

we will see whos lauging when you get your ass handed to you by a guy running an overweight pig of a car and a tinfoil motor. aint no RX7 that i came accross ever kept up with my street car...and that was just a wee motor..also made of tinfoil....actually..nothing stood a chance..other than more..tin foil powerd cars..

350HP blows up at the track cuz of allot of reasons..and it aint the HP, or the tinfoil.

"yeah i am running a ported 13B" just dont have the same ring as "stroked and bored"
..but that dont matter..you rotary guys are near def anyhow...sounds like a screaming baby that found a megaphone..its ok though..it would make anyone def.
and the ears bleeding aint nothing to do with the sound of the motor..its a common symptom of a bruised brain..wich is probably how you ended up with this motor of yours..if thats the case..i feel bad for ya..i hope it was work related and you at least got a compo claim..
but if not..well..
good thing you got a light weight rail..otherwise you would not be able to get that thing rolling from a stop.
Chris told me you would be around here with something to say. good to meet ya!

 B)  got rice?

See ya soon!!!

I don't recall needing your Dads fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
I seem to remember that my 1300cc buggy was the only one that could pull allot of you guy's out of the biggest dunes, cause nobody else could do it, actually now that I think back I only had a 1100cc motor in that rail. :P
I would pull my buggies weight and a dead one with it up and out of the biggest  bowls even if it was at 8500rpm.

I think My dad is still coughing up sand from his lungs from that pull from up the bowl...Chris :P

If you look close on my push bar you can see where the strap was from your pull Chris :P the rest of the bar got majour sand blasting... same with my dads face

I want to play in the sand Now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 months to go!
My rail never worked so hard as getting Chris out of that bowl only way out was up!Towing Chris was the first work out for my new 1914 thanks Hans! I owed Chris and still owe him a tow or 2 as he's done his share of towiing me @ night !
I wished someone could have got a pict of me towing Hans in that wind storm. I got my 4 wheels off the ground and dragged Hans off all 4 when we hit the crest of one hill. Hans do you have any picts of what you and your rail looked like after the tow?

Hey Cale we call that seeing the light!   You know you can get a 1000hp out of a three rotor.
Taylor I don't know if we'll make the March trip, but we will be doing lots of trips next year when it's warm. The last time we went down was in Sept to Sand lake, It was awesome! We dumped the air in the tires and drove everything out onto the dunes, we camped about a 100 yards from the ocean.
I will definitely do that again, it was so nice there that weekend even though it's smaller there.
Hey Taylor there's no pictures of me pulling all you guy's out of the dunes cause we were going way to fast..   some of the buggies have never been that fast again

I like Sandlake lots of trails! Also can't get lost @ night! :D Towing and going to fast  more like never ate so much sand and Sand flying can't see! What about when we parted my rail in the parking lot so you could shuttle the pieces out to the dunes to  put them on Brents so he could at least be towed!

Never mind the warm day's a day on the sand even in the rain is better than a day @ work! The year you killed the tranny in the long travel was an awesome year every one was in T shirts . Some even sat around sun bathing all day because they didn't bring a spare tranny!

Hey nice buggies.....looks like a hoot! Mind you I would not fair that well out there in the sand with mine.I would just dig holes i'm sure. I will stick to the sticks more interesting IMO..you know corners ( that you actualy have to make) not u turns in an open field :D  The unexpected washed out road/bridge to go around..not..oh..more sand...weeee. ;) .Though going 100 miles an hour across there might turn my crank more. There is just something about cruising down a old road thats grown over no matter how short it is that sits well with my soul  .

Actually Hillbilly , your buggy would do fine. A friend of mine comes down with his manx style with much smaller tires than you have . He gets around just fine. No big hills though and have to watch out what you get into cause you may not get back out. Very cool!

Yes , we have the chicken. Sure cheapened it passing it to me like that.  It used to mean something ........now.....?. <_<   I knew I was low on fuel and was heading back and got to within one minute of the camp site.  Hardly a roll over on a smooth flat beach or a night run out in the middle of no-where with half a tank of fuel. :P

I swear my next project is gonna be an old mazda with an killer aircooled VW in it.  Then a Subaru , then a Chevelle. :P

Hans I tend to agree ! I ran out of gas have the biggest gas tank and got the chicken I deserved it and held it for almost a year. Pointblank your roll over deserved the chicken , and somehow as luck would have it you wound up with the chicken for less than 48 hrs. Lets see running out of gas versus roll over (for a kodak moment)? But thems the rules of the chicken the next silly / dumb/ what was I thinking move gets the chicken! Pointblank did you even get a chance to add some decoration to the chicken?Hanz if you don't go to Florence on spring break  you have to decorate him with something and give him to me cause I'm sure someone will get to adopt him! Remember don't chock the chicken but carry and display  him with pride!      Remember Vive La chicken!

Shane IT's not talking big it's remenicing about fun times!I forgot the tires everyone was ready to go when he did that. It's a good thing he got himself unstuck because I don't think anyone was going to help him ! How about when Pointblank, Brent and Mike went out didn't Mike get stuck in a bowl and you thought you guys were going to be parting his rail and leave the frame for the sand to eat? I mentioned my bent front end and a few nights I was towed in. I did mention Mike it's in the buggy on top of buggy part just no name of parties involved. But getting back to Mike, what about all the times we said were going over that way and Mike starts following and decides to take what he thinks is a short cut. Hour or two later every one has to go look for him! Pull into a gas station tell the guy to fill the rail and the guy took the oil cap off and filled the block. Mike I don't think they make that size off tow ball, and thetrailer went through the motor home. Is that enough about Mike cause I could type for a couple day;s about his episodes?
I think the one I"ll never forget as long as I live was when we all got lost on the dunes. UPM and I went down that private road and the guy came running out of the drug house  pumping a shell into his shotgun UPM and I thinking were dead!
Pointblank all I know is 3 months tell we go again and can't wait     :(
