So I pulled my rear window out today to clean it up and get ready for paint and I was suprised to find what looks like seam seal/old thick adhesive under the window seal. Is this normal? I thought it would be just the lip of the window sill. Or is it just due to the fact the PO put cal-look rubber in and couldn't get it to seal properly.

Sometimes a sealent is used just as a precaution depending on who did it and were it was done. It is fairly normal, is it still sticky or has it cured. If it is sticky I would think it is butyl and should clean off with tar remover or acrysol.

If its solid I would think its urethane the same stuff we put windshields in with. It doesnt come of easy it has to be scraped and sanded.
