i just tried listing a car forsale on ebay and at the end it said the total comes to $45 and i did not choose any fancy options or extras, i was checking to see if it was free.

is there some special way to go about it ?

I've never sold anything on Ebay, so I'm just trying to confirm how it works. The initial listing is free but am I correct in reading that as soon as some one bids I have to pay Ebay a $58.00 transaction fee?

honestly, ive never sold anything on ebay, only bought

but if there is that fee just start your car at 5000 (what you are selling it for) and that way you know you are going to sell it if you get a bid

That makes sense. What I'm wondering though is, do you pay that transaction fee right at the first bid or once th auction closes? Honestly, I don't have an extra $58 lying around right now.

I think I'll stick with my ads here and on the Samba. EBay's free offer isn't very free once you get into it.

Just the 'insertion' fee is free.  You still have to pay all their fees at the end of the auction (%age of sale price etc).

That's how they get you - the fees that evilbay charges are outrageous - if you want to try an auction stick it on my site which has no fees attached for anything. Then cross reference the auction to other sites (like everyone does for their evilbay auctions).

You should see what the charge for webstores - it's almost criminal!
