The "plan" is to get it into paint down in Chilliwack at my friends shop.  However being on call 24-7 its a pain to try and get down there to spend anytime on it.  Once its painted then I want to get it up here and put it together over the winter.  My goal is to have it done for the car show in the spring.  Its a long shot but I think if i work on it, it should be done.  I'll come for a coffee this week some time

Pan is painted after sandblasting, and welding in a clutch tube.  Turned out i had bought an auto pan without the clutch tube, but i only figured that out after I sandblasted it.

I fell off the wagen of bothering to update ASF or FB :-X.  Since the last posts I've recieved in-take spacers to fix the carbs hitting the cooling tin.  trying to get my beam together.  having a little trouble getting the camber adjustment things off the ball joints to replace the rubbers.  I just have to go borrow a 3 point puller.  I was going to re-drill my disks and drums to 5-130, but I think I'm just going to order new ones from CIP.  Its going to be low, 2.5 drop spindles and adjustable beam.

what looks out of place in this pic???

maybe this?

(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1010.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf226%2Fabacoupe%2F66%2520bug%2FDSC04478.jpg&hash=4600404660610757dcf24ffaadfcf2f13c5aa705)

A big "f"ing rock...  this is what i think of this rock!

(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1010.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf226%2Fabacoupe%2F66%2520bug%2FDSC04482.jpg&hash=fe9b2edd876655d60e7edf6af28044157a795169)

Once my eyes turned blue again (rather than red) i realized that the damage will be coverd by the running boards.  And if the rock would have came down while i was bolting the body to the pan last week i would be dead!

Ya looks like I'm going to be getting some railway ties from work.  The car test has been there for more than 2 years without a problem.  As much as it sucks it could have been alot worse!

Working the road wouldn't be so bad, but I'm forced to a 1500 yard in quesnel.  With having only one car on the road right now that means staying in a hotel.  But it looks like I may be back home next week.

Its suppose to get better! but it just seems to be less and less jobs around, maybe things will pick up soon.  If I'm here next week I may bring one of my rims with me to polish.  I wonder if I'd get kicked out of the hotel for polishing rims in my room?

Where do they have you located now? your seniority should let you hold a position by now dunno why your moving around let me know when your back in Chilliwack bud will have to meet up for drinks. And most of the hotels understand when you mention your a railroader about rim polishing in your room those crazy conductors

My rims seem to to be hitting the lower ball joint, I think if i put the stock spindles back on it should move the balljoint away from the rim, I think at this hight the tires won't be on the ground anyways.

If the interference is only slight, get the grinder out and profile the ball joint a bit.

Could it be that easy? how much clearance does a rim need?

Indeed.  A couple of mm should do it.  You can also skim the wheel too.  A wheel spacer will also give you some clearance since the wheel's profile there is tapered.  When you're done, take your sharpie and mark two circles on the wheel where the ball joint is really close.  When you get your tires mounted, tell the guy he can't put any wheel weights in this zone.

As for the wheel weights issue, I'm using 4oz of airsoft pellets in each tire and no weights at all on the rims. You can buy beads specifically for the purpose, but a friend in Cali swears by using airsoft pellets. I couldn't fit weights on my wheels, so I figured it was worth a shot. Works like a charm, and honestly balances the tires out smooth. There are a few quirks though...they unbalance on a hard bump, and take a few hundred meters to smooth out.

I used a pencil to put a circle on the rim and they were able to balance the wheels without a problem.

Got some more lows. 4" narrowed beam with shock towers that use linkpin shocks. put in the car with 2.5" drop spindles and 1/2" spacers so I actually have a turning radius. Next i need to lower the rear more.

wow its been far to long since I've posted in here!  Last summer I was to busy driving the bug. We made two trips from Williams lake to the lower mainland through the okanagon with no real problems other than oil leaks, seems I could fix one and it would start leaking from somewhere else.  Then a week before the insurance ran out the welds on the clutch cable tube broke.  I parked it and forgot about it for a few months.  Just before Christmas I finaly cut some holes in the tunnel and welded it up again, then a few more months off to plan and have our wedding. Now its back to the bug!  a few pics from last summer.

I really gotta start up dating this a little more often. My winter goals were taller gears and a smoother idle.  For taller gears I went with the Rancho Pro street box with 3.88's from rob at AVR.  Putting a new tranny in with the body on sure is a fun job!  To get the smoother idle I went for a Mallory distributor and control box from aircooled.net.  It seemed to be the best option for the type IV motor, its kinda neat it has both and vacuum and mechanical advance.  Today while I was installing new spark plugs I noticed that the #2 cylinder plug would only go in 2/3 of the way.  After visiting all the parts places in Williams lake I was able to find the right tap and chase the threads to get the plug in all the way.  This was the first time I’ve put plugs in without the cooling tins on.  I’m guessing the plug hasn’t been all the way in a while and may be the cause of my miss at idle.

Here is my sync-link, it fits the type IV far better than a hex bar!  As with anything I’ve bought from Jake at massivetypeIV.com the quality is unbelievable.  Its nice to receive products that simply bolt on and require no mods what so ever.  I’ve been watching this be developed for the last three years and I was very happy to get in on one of the first shipments.

(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1010.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf226%2Fabacoupe%2FP1070269.jpg&hash=7862161f20c4ab2b3730680d71ff9eb1fd7e997f)

I ordered the ignition box thinking it replaced the coil. Then I ordered the coil using the Mallory part numbers that the instruction recommended. I think it’s a little over kill but I don't think I need to worry about my ignition being a weak point anymore!
