if i remember many of the dvkk have done a pan off resto .so, question?
engine on or off ??it is obviously easier too bolt a motor on now .but how easy is it too install the shell back onto the pan with the motor on,anyone do it that way??

Depends on how you are supporting the body.  Last car I did, the body was on a hoist, so getting it high enough was no concern, so I had the engine on the trans.
If you are doing it by hand with your buddies, don't install the engine until after.  The fan shroud is too high to go up over.  
Also take your shifter off.  You want to reduce the number of high spots to clear.

I agree with Bruce, I wouldn't leave the motor in simply for the risk of damaging something. It only takes an extra 10-15 min to put a motor in anyway, no sense risking it.
