Swing To Irs?
« on: November 01, 2006, 06:29:51 AM »

I remember once changing a trany in just ove an hour on a 1971. It looks like swing is a lot more complicated.

What again is the process of changing swing to IRS?

It's a bit of a process. I did it to my '59 but I have the body and pan seperated. Much easier this way. You must weld in trailing arm brackets and dimple the frame horns to clear the cv joints. There is also and issue with trailing arm/shock tower clearance. Track down some the necessary irs parts. (Trailing arms, axles, cv's,springplates) I found a irs rear end with all that stuff for $50. Brackets are $20ish. Then find a tranny.

Have been working on mine for some time now Got the irs bolted in and ready to go
Used the alignment jig from airspeed (don't know the status of that nice peice of equimpent) Made a world of differance in the setup of the pivot brackets. You will need new torsion bars and spring plates, end caps
e brake cables possibly new style clutch
oh ya and some more PATIENCE

Patience is a virtue that you can't buy.

Did you take any pictures?

If you want all the parts at once, contact Mirko.  He took off everything you need when he went the other way.
