Engine What To Do?
« on: September 17, 2004, 04:04:03 PM »
OK I am building my new engine starting this weekend.... (Right Darren)
However I have listened to so much Bench building I am confused...

So tell me what you would use for Pistons/ sleeves? If you had your choice.

Yes but Shane is running boost, and we've seen the damage it can do when not bang on...

Like I said before Weisco's are only a bandaid, The cylinders let go the first time, second time it was a piston and cylinder that blew. If you instal weisco's into Cima cyls it may blow again, Why? Either too much boost or detonation.

Talk to the people who build turbo motors all the time like Paradise, they should have some good info. I know they run 20-30lbs on Cima's without failure. (dont know for how long)

15lbs is not much boost and thats all that car made (17 max)

Someone must have some good answers, keep asking.

My 2 cents would be something like this . Obviously Jim had a good thing going . That must be the only 2000lbs. VW running in the 10's on only 15lbs  boost .  Any more ideas as to what really happened?  Did the piston just simply let go ? Just a bad piston?  Was it detonating ?  Combustion temps or presures to high for cima's ? Did the rod let go first allowing the piston to hit the head ? Just a bad rod ?  If it is at all posible to know more about what happened it may be easer to decide which way to go . I don't know  , just my 2cents.

Hey Shane, What about using the Aquamist water alcohol injection to rule out possible detonation?
