Where to buy parts for engine build??
« on: April 03, 2012, 09:56:12 PM »
hey There,

Im just looking at the moment, for getting ready to build a big motor.

Just was thinking about buying all the pieces and taking it to a local engine builder and having them build it. where would a good place be? I have been looking through cip, scatvw and avr, I was leaning more towards scat because of their kits but what are some of your guys opinion on this?
cheers

How much money are you prepared to spend? Horsepower = dollars
There's an old performance saying...
Power, reliability, affordable. You get to choose two.

It's an insane world out there... and I'm proud to be part of it!

Isn't C1P offering crate engines now? Have you looked at that route yet? I do believe the disclaimer says it has to be installed by a professional though.

Trust me i have looked at it, and honestly i would rather get someone that i know that has a solid rep to build a motor for me not saying cip doesnt but i have talked to a few of te dvkk guys and they said get someone to build it so they know what exactly what i want to use it for. also having someone take the time and do a better job, would put me at ease, so that was the route i was planning on going. Buying all the parts first then get built.

Just out of curosity has anybody bought a cip motor and any feedback?

the cip motors would work well for that, built by a good builder, probably one of your cheaper avenues

I suspect most builders would rather help you decide what parts to put in a motor than build solely from your box of parts, mainly I would say, because they would want to ensure they are building with parts they trust. I wouldn't want to build you a motor from your parts and then try and say it will be reliable if I didn't have a say in the parts.

I suggest you make contact with the local builders and see what they say before you go buying parts or you may find yourself with a box of parts and no one to build it, just a thought, I could be wrong.

Hi, shoot me P.M if you like and perhaps we can put a shopping list together for parts that will give you a good running combination that meets your needs.
I have all equipment nessisary for machining all parts and can build and test run ( tune) anything from 36 H.P. Up to 9 second turbo motors.

Cheers

for what it's worth rumor has it scat is having difficulty sourcing cylinders and forged pistons right now so they are shipping kits without them... notice their kit description lists everything down to the rear main seal, but not barrels and pistons? sneaky, eh?

checkitout (only forged kits) - http://www.scatvw.com/master/engine_kits/
