Type 2 Drums
« on: August 07, 2005, 10:42:38 PM »
Does anyone know if the 68-70 Type 2 wide 5 rear drums will work on an type 1 IRS rear brake set up?  If not, how does a fella make a wide 5 wheel work on an IRS pan?

T-2 drums will not go on beetles. Just swap your 4 bolt drums for  67 beetle 5 bolt drums. The splines will be about 5/8\" short so you must use a spacer between the drum and the big nut. Spacer should be available from airspeed too.  You could also go for one of the after market wide 5 disc brake set ups.

Hey Fred...go for T3 wide 5 drums on the rear, if you want a bit more braking force.

PS Thanks for the help getting home!
