Title: Spoungy Pedal

Hey,

I've replaced all brake lines except one. Replaced two wheel cylinders. Adjusted all pads, and the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor?

next I replaced the master cylinder twice still no luckany ideas as to why my pedal is going to the floor and how to fix it?

did you adjust the master cylinder push rod? its on the brake pedal and goes into the master cylinder? how much freeplay is there on your brake pedal?

1/4\" free play, then spring tension until anout 1 1/2\" to 2 \" from the floor

just keep bleedin them, you may still have air in the lines

What kind of car?

Depending on your combo of master cylinder and plunger and pedal assembly, late to old single circut to dual circut, etc....?

If you are just running original style master cylinder and original pedal assembly and original plunger then I would say your problem is air or improper shoe adjustment. I have found with early style brakes, because you only have one circut, if all four brakes aren't adjusted you'll have a hard time ever getting pedal.

You should only adjust your plunger if you have changed from the factory set up, maybe a different pedal assembly, later plungers are shorter than early ones, i think?

Original pedal assembly, dual chamber master cylinder 1968 bug, bled 1 litre through system , no air, pads are all adjusted tight then backed off until no rubbing?????????

still no joy

another master cylinder?  Could it be I had 3 bad master cylinders????????

I am really getting twisted

Did you 'bench bleed' the master cylinder?

(Basically you're trying to get the air bubles out of the master before you install it).

I've never heard of \"bench bleeding\"? is it nessasary?

I have not read anything about this.  How do I do it?  Can I do it with the master cylinder mounted on the vehicle?

Bench bleeding just makes your job easier later on. You may have a bad master. I have seen a lot of bad aftermarket masters lately. Took my friend 3 trys until he got a good one for his notchback.

You need a bench ..and a vice helps......hold the m/c in the vice manualy pump the cyl. making sure you pour brake fluid inthe top holes and pump / fill the m/c with fluid ( messy job )  
 you say you have 1/4 inch play then 1 1/2 inch spring ? tension . I have less on mine. you have an ajustment behide yuor pedal as well ( it is a stop ) make sure there is nothing back there between pedal and ajustable stop. this ajusts the setback/travel of the pedal/ rod ,the farther it is ahead the further the pedal sits back alowing further travel. This is most cases won't need ajusting but some times crap gets in there..are your pedals flush with each other?
   what procedure did you use in bleeding your brakes?
Grab you m/c and try to move it side ways ( wiggle it) is it real solid and tight? Any movement could indicate the spacers falling down inside.( Had that problem once).
  I know your looking for answers.....sorry about all the questions.
