« on: December 18, 2006, 08:40:20 PM »
I need help here boys, ive got a 1914cc and i dont want to get rid of it but my stock swing axle cant handle the power and i can only cruise and 80km an hour on the freeway so should i just buy a new transaxle or get someone to rebuild mine and if anyone does rebuild them locally???

You need taller rear tires.   What do you have now?  With stock dia tires you should be able to cruise comfortably at 100 km/h with the lowest stock R&P.

For a daily driver that sees frequent freeway use, I recommend a 4.12 R&P (you probably have a 4.37 R&P) with stock gears.  If you are gonna go to the track, you need a 9 tooth first gear and a superdiff.  If you want a 4.12 R&P, the best source is to get a double side cover IRS trans, then use that as a basis for a strengthened swing axle.

you have a tach in the car?? what kind of rpms are you doing at those speeds?
even with the stock 4.375 in my car with the 165s i was able to cruise at 100
it seemed like it was revving high, but it was really only about 3200 ish

Stock 437 trans & tires =  100 k @ aprox 3000 rpm in 4th
                                         120 k @ aprox 4000 rpm in 4th
                                         170 plus K @ 6000 rpm in 4th (115mph)
also about 90 mph at 7000 rpm in 3rd gear at the end of the 1/4
How much taller geared do you really want to go? :D

well i had no tach, when i was cruising at 80km in 4th gear it sounded like one of my cylinders wasnt firing or it was \"knocking\" but it was fine in all other gears maybe it was my carbs? i dont know [_[

well id say if a cylinder isnt firing, it most likely isnt a transmission problem B)
