I need to know how to take the body off the pan

Check out the \"bug me\" video series. It a step by step how to series on all things VW. Video no. 6 should be the one you are looking for it also includes instructions on how to replace floor pan halves.

I did it about 26 years ago with two other guys.  We took a 68 and a 71 and switch bodies.

Make a list of evething that can be remove prior (i.e. Gas tank,  doors, cables, pedals, etc.)  I would get new seals for when you are ready to put it back . Get a few guys to help you after you have prepared for it.
