drop spindle question
« on: February 22, 2014, 02:18:46 PM »
So I got my drop spindles in the mail the other day and have a question. Do you need to ream out the hole in the spindle that the king pin sits in, like you do to the brass bushings in the knuckle? After doing a little test fitting, they seem really tight.

Dude I went through the same problem.  But no.  I did have to file that tiny pin that the washer/spacer sits on.  Because it was too high.   Also even the smallest burr makes a difference.   Slide the pin in each piece  seperate and make sure they slide.  And doing it you will see what it could be.  I even found that my washer did not line up perfectly over the spindals hole and just had to widen out the hole a tiny bit.  About a 1/16".

I didn't think so, but i'm guessing thats what you get from aftermarket parts. I'll have to get the gauge out and take some measurements.

Most likely it's that washer that doesn't line up because of the pin that holds it.   It seemed to only happen on my drivers side spindle only. Let me know if that was the same on yours

So I figured out the issue. The new driver side spindle had a slightly different measurement then the original (heightwise where the king pin passes thru the spindle) close to 0.35mm too big.

That and a couple more small clearancing issues and they fit and work just fine.
