The Wind Hound - Warning NOT 56k Friendly!
« on: November 28, 2010, 07:45:53 PM »
I have a friend who has been into VW restoration since the very early 80's and has been rebuilding a '59 356 since early '08. He would post them himself, but he doesn't really have too much interest in all the computer stuff that goes along with it.... So I'll be posting on his behalf. The Project is currently awaiting some final touch ups before paint, such as running wires and fitting finish panels etc. Any Q's feel free to ask! Have a project you want done right? Lemme know and I'll put you in touch with him.

Yeah it will be basically stock. Updates will include 12V conversion,  Newer Porsche 1600 motor ( but still Porsche ), and some aftermarket OEM looking aluminum race wheels by Technomagnesio

What are the spacers between the wheel and drums?

There's no spacers. its just the thickness of the rims. The orig racing version was thinner but not approved for road use. They had to make them thicker ( thus a little heavier ) for road safety regulations. Can't remember where I read it...

Here is a good read on the rims. http://porsche356registry.org/356talk/1/24603.html

I digitized an old Porsche factory tour movie and posted it on Youtube a few years ago. Shows some excellent footage of body construction that you guys may find interesting.

Pictures as promised! I took them with my iphone and uploaded them as medium size to save time, so they aren't the best pics, but enjoy!

The Technomagnesio are sick.  There was a set on the 356 registry that lasted for 3 hours at $5000.  The Chinese are wasting their time making fake iplods, they should be knocking out 356 rare parts! :)

Yes actually, on thursday night we lifted the engine into the car!  PDT_Armataz_01_37 Finally has breath after 30 some years. Almost all the interior is in, but awaiting the guages to be rebuilt and installed. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow and update the thread. It has been a while.
