Door hinge pins
« on: May 14, 2008, 01:13:09 PM »
I've got some play in my '59 door hinge pins. Question is if I have some play I assume I will have to go with an over sized pin? If so what size to buy. CIP has a few different ones available. I thought of these ones for the top : http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D111%2D831%2D423%2DE

and these for the bottom.

Now removal seems pretty straight forward (air chisel with heat) What about installation?

I assume the hinges need to be reamed? Actual size of pin or slightly smaller or bigger? Just drive them back in?

Any tricks of the trade would be appreciated.

Dont rule out a std size pin. In most cases it's the pin thats worn not the hinge.

Is the only way to check this by taking out the old ones and inspecting them? The door seems to have more play the more it is open.
