STILL LOOKING FOR A KAFER CUP BRACE FOR IRS (1973 CONVERTIBLE)

-----------------
I have padded transmission front and rear straps, as well as a heavy traction bar.  But I still get wheel hop.

What is the difference between the AirSpeed drag bar and the bugpack kafer cup 3 bar set up.  Does anyone have photos, since the AirSpeed photos no longer link anywhere.

Will they fit my 1973 convertible?

Any available for sale of either type?

Don

You want something to tie in your frame horns.

If you are handy, and can weld ...very easy to make one yourself.  My superbeetle has one that I made in about 1 hour.  I just put a piece of angle iron across the package tray inside , and from the bottom , welded to the frame horns, and made a plate on top of the pcs sticking up  to bolt up to the bottom of the angle iron in the package tray.  Easy, works, and got my superbeetle to 2.1 60' times with no wheel hop.

My drag car  used 3/4\" plumbing pipe, welded and tied the shock towers in properly to the frame horns.

The thing you want to do is preload your suspension by slightly pulling up when installing the down bars, that is why the airspeed bar was a good piece as it was able to do that. ACVW.net had a few left but I am not sure if they are early or late...

I have some pics of my install of a late setup on the samba here:

Thanks guys.  Since I'm not much of a welder I think I'll stick with a bolt-in bar.  Will the Airspeed unit get in the way of my Mesa oil cooler which I installed under the package tray centered above the tranny?

if you look from the top of the shock tower to the opposite one and you can see the cooler in that path then yes, and if so almost all of these types of bars will be an issue.

Does anybody have a measurement for the airspeed bar downbars to the transmission support?

I need to drill some holes in my new mount before I get it powdercoated....

If more power is better. Then too much is just enough.
Why do it once when you can do it thrice?

They are adjustable.

This picture should help with where to drill

I do realize they are adjustable. I just don't want to be entirely out to lunch...

Thanks for the photo. That should at least get me in the ballpark.

I checked with Chris and Shane at ACVW.  They are currently out of LATE drag bars.  Does anyone know where a set might be available?

If not, what other bolt-in set might work for my 'vert super?  Some posts on Samba imply that the heim joints and small diameter tubing of the Bugpack version may not be stiff enough.  Any comments?

ive never used the bugpack version, but ive taken a good look at it, and compared it to my airspeed bar, and the bugpack version was shit...
im sure it would help with wheel hop, but the strength and looks for that matter just arent there. search the samba, there maybe someone selling one, as there are a few different people making them other than airspeed and bugpack..

Aircooled.net has a nice looking bar. Somewhat similar to the Airspeed bar

FYI I've bought stuff from John Connolly in the past. He's a great dude and he doesn't sell crap...

You need to have your engine installed to ensure the down links don't interfere with the J pipes of your header.  This is a common interference problem.

I'll second that, the one I built, #3 is real close but it fits
55 ragtop T1
56 kombi T2
