Air Cleaner Clean-up

I just removed the \"Frying Pan\" air cleaner from my 71 Beetle. What is the best way to clean this up? I want to get it cleaned an repainted before I put it back on the car.
Just regular Gunk engine degreaser be fine?

You got it, Lots of Gunk and lots of water PSI will do the trick.

what about the rmovable part ?  Water on/in that OK?
