Ummmm.....yeah....wow....any records about the rebuild? new heads? and who reworked them? Cam? Lifters? That's a gold plated price for a mystery engine and they all "ran good when parked" ;)

I bought a complete type 2 1800 engine last year for under 400.00.  Turns out many of the parts were suitable core items for my conversion project, so I agree with busdaddy...without specifics regarding the rebuild and parts, it is a gold plated price.

I think Mark was hinting that it might be easier to sell a motor for a premium price if one listed the motors credentials (more of a help than a bash in my opinion). Marks a great guy who helps a lot of people out.
Bit of sarcasm but that IS a friendly wink at the end :).

IMO - who built it, what was done, and what parts were used is everything. Without a reciept and being an already pulled motor there is no way to even confirm mileage on the motor.

Is there any way to get in touch with who built it to see if they have a copy of the build sheet in their records? Without that I would say either sell it to a friend, or to most it will be just a used motor. As Mark said "they all ran good when parked". That's something you hear from almost everyone selling a motor. I sold an 1800 motor complete with the top end (I was told) rebuilt by the Bug Shop for $400 last year or the year before.

Really don't know what to say for price for you but $1800 is very high if you are missing all the vital info. $400-$800 range? Just list it and keep lowering the price untill it sells I guess.

BTW I am not trying to knock you down either...just trying to be helpful ;)

I agree, not knowing exactly what was done and by whom is the difference between an epic road trip engine or something you don't dare take out of BCAA range. Maybe a strong runner now,but for how long?
Unless it has a GEX sticker on it, then I'd be afraid to leave the driveway :-\

You've began the process, now start shaving the price until the serious nibbles begin.

I have no more info to add.
However i will drop the price to 1600 bucks.
I can tell you that i rarely drove it in the winter and did oil changes every spring ( about every 2000k or so)
Electronic ignition with a spare module just in case.
