Tie Rods

How do you get the tie rods out?  After taking off the nuts, tried to hammer them off but it's in there good.  Do I just keep on bashing or what's the trick?  Liquid wrenched, tapping and bashing to no avail.  Hints?

Here's a trick I found when removing tie-rods from heavy trucks.

You will need two large hammers. Place a sledge hammer behind the arm on the spindle where the tie-rod is mounted, and hammer the arm from the front with a 5lb hammer. You won't need to actually strike the tie-rod end and damage the threads, the vibrations of a good handful of whacks will work.

make sure the nut is on when smashin it so the threads dont get messed up

well bought a pickle fork and it made it a lot easier, 3 down 1 to go for tomorrow.  It still is really tough to bash em out tough, hope assembly will be smooth.  Thanks for the tips!

Ok, finally got the last tie rod off with the help of some wedges, but now a question about installation:

1) the spindles I have are stamped 111 405 357 dvr side and 111 405 358.  The tie rod ends I have are 131 415 811, left and 812 right.  Are they the right ones?

I noticed that they don't fit in smoothly through the hole on the spindle, is this normal?  The old tie rod ends thread was slightly thinner than bushing part, and it seems they can be bashed in without destroying the threads?  Thoughts?

The other two tie rods ends on the steering box arm fit nicely.  Help!!

What year is the car?

The tie rod holes at the spindles for 66-68(?) are smaller than later cars.  These spindles require different tie rod ends.

so do you know what spindles I have according to the number stamp?  I need to switch the ends with what year spindles?

The car is a 62, but there are a lot of mis-matched parts I think...
