Adjustable tie rods, steering ect
« on: June 08, 2012, 05:52:27 PM »
Hi , I lowered the bug with 2 1/2 drop spindles and bought some adjustable arms ect to clean up the sloppy steering. The car is a 66 ,  the new  right adjustable tie rod is in the car but a bit to long, Ive got the correct Tie Rod Ends in the new drop spindles (68 and up) and the Rod itself I was told should use the year of the car 66. Its too long and the right front tire toes -In slightly but the adjustment is maxed out on the threads  ..                Q#1 .  Is there a shorter rod to get to fix this ????    Also Q#2. how do you get your steering wheel back to center again , its now off cenetr to the right??    Many Thanks....Tim

You should be ok if you do this.

First: Center steering wheel making sure that the steering gear is centered. Lock it there.

Then: Using the tie rod adjustment bring the wheels straight, then adjust toe-in to spec. I think 1mm in, someone correct me if that's wrong. Remember to measure toe on the rim not the tire, and make sure you are measuring at the center of the wheel.

That should solve your problems. Good luck.
