Anybody Do Beetle Suspension Work?
« on: September 21, 2005, 08:49:43 PM »
Hey Guys,
After debating for al ittle while about selling the beetle and buying something more practical with a couple more doors, with AC, real watercooled heat and 80's reliablilty that got shot down dreadfully. Anyways not so disenchanted anymore after seeing a few nice aircooleds on the road.
I need the suspension in my bug fixed up a bit. More specifically the front camber issues and the back dropped a bit. I don't have the expertise or the time. Just wondering if anybody off the forum would like to make a few lootcakes and help a brother out? No real rush since any time the car's away from my parents place allows me to clean which is much needed.
Anybody out there?

you should go into airspeed and pick up some shims and ask Jimmy for the instructions on setting up the camber and then do it, very easy to do.

you have had the front apart before so you know how to do it, just dig in!

I'd be up for that but.....
I'm lazy,
My tools are up at the Shuswap,
and I'm already having to replace driveshaft guibos so getting underneath another car doesn't appeal for me... and for the time/ effort it seems more worth it just to pay somebody to fix it...
I know I can do it it's just how many times it would take me to get it right

Sounds like you don't want to own a classic car.

Not that.
Between trying to get my '30 model A Cabriolet project going again, Keeping my 1975 bmw daily driver alive(Needs a new drive shaft guibo and transmission mount... and sunroof adjusted, and the valves) and then trying to get the bug back on the road, going to school, and training for my new job and going to the gym there aren't just enough hours in the day.
Plus I am no self pro-claimed suspension expert and I rather just spend the lootcakes to have it done the first time then dick around with it...

Sorry last time I checked the only maintanence free vehicles out there are Hyundais and who wants to drive those. And its not like aircooled vws are maintanence free daily drivers either
