My 1964 bus has a worn out, undersized 12v battery in it that i need to replace with something bigger and newer. What size do i ask for, or can i just ask for what would fit in say a '68 bay window?
-
Kinda depends on whether the battery tray has been replaced and what kind of hold down it now has, 67-71 would likely be the easiest to adapt, if thier application book is on it's game a 72+ will have the posts reversed.
Whatever you do don't buy the battery from Canadian tire, or any other dealer selling rebranded Globelite's (sloped area between the side and top terminals and a recessed handle), they're a waste of money and sure to expire the same time as the warranty.

Thanks for the reply. From another forum I got two answers: 'the biggest one that will fit' and 'PT Cruiser'.

Alan set me up with a group 75 Interstate battery. They have two lines. The one with the green top is the one you want. Fits in my Bug well.

Who is Alan, and is 'Group 75' the size I ask for?
-
"75" is the case series, length 9 and 1/16, width is 7 and 1/16th and height is 7 and 5/16th
a good one is a 75dt6yr its a 75 series with dual terminals and you can clean up any accesories with the side terminals

Not to hijack this thread, but is there still an easily obtainable 6volt for my hunk o' junk Steveo? I don't think 6 volt was the problem, rather the size. I think by old paperwork it's supposed to be a 66Ah a 77Ah or a 17L? The width & length of the battery would have to be no larger than 7" x 7 3/8".

Thanks all. Great info ;D

Brian,
Optima makes a 6V battery. The 356 guys like them. I don't know what the dimensions are. I do know there's an Optima dealer on Bridgeport in Ditchmond.
