Can't shift into 4th and no neutral
« on: October 19, 2016, 12:43:22 PM »
My 56 split trans needs a rebuild, so I installed a 59 I had as a spare that had been "rebuilt" prior to me getting it. It shifts into 1st, 2nd and reverse nicely. I can find third but does feel like it's going in completely. Will not go into 4th, and when it's in neutral it still feels like it's in gear (doesn't roll freely and spins the crankshaft). Any ideas out there? I have tried adjusting the shifter.

It sounds like you need to adjust the 3-4 shift fork.
The access plug is on the left side trans case, forward of the axle.  There are two plugs, take out the forward one to get at the 3-4 fork.  If you jack the left side up really high, you probably won't lose any oil.
